An IMG friend of mine intends to apply to Neurology next year. Now I know that you have to go through the SFMatch for neuro, and he told me that you need a prelim med. year. Now he wants to know whether the Neurology program arranges the prelim year itself (ie you only go through the SFMatch) or whether you have to apply separately for a prelim med year via NRMP.

Thanks a pile!

You will have to apply for the prelim separately through the NRMP. However, some programs have an agreement with the internal medicine dept that if you are accepted to neuro, you automatically get a prelim year at that program. (e.g. Cleveland Clinic, Emory, U Wash, and others...).

Thanks for the info....much appreciated.
