A question about prerequisites (timing)

Say,

X Univ. requires biochemistry only
Y Univ. requires genetics only
Z Univ. requires molecular biology only

Does anyone know if it's possible to apply without these prerequisites and say I get accepted to Y and then just take the genetics before matriculation (like on the summer)? There's really no point in taking all 3 if I can avoid that. Cost and timing are killing me.

Honestly, I'd contact each of the schools and find out what they say. The policy for that may differ as much as their prereqs do.

Things like biochem can usually be satisfied before matriculation. Two of the schools I applied to need biochem, and I haven't taken it yet. They both said to apply and just make sure I have it before I start classes.

It may depend on the school though.

I have never heard of a school that requires a specific class before application. Otherwise Juniors in college hoping to matriculate immediately after college wouldn't be able to apply.

I like your plan. Just apply and wait to see where you are accepted.

Yes, possible. Preferrable even. Just be aware that it might cause some headache if you are accepted off the waitlist really late in the game. I would think that you'll have a good idea of whether that's a possibility you need to deal with though. I'm planning on doing the same thing, as the CA schools all have slightly different twists (e.g. if accepted to USC, take biochem, accepted to UCLA take an english comp class, etc.)
