(I tired to find a thread on this but I couldn't find anything.)
This might be a silly question but for an interview is it bad if your hair is down? I was told to wear my hair up because it is more professional but I disagree. Any thoughts?
😍

a friend of mine, whoworks in banking said that hair up is mor eprofessional...

she even told me that a controlled study demonstrated that girls with their hair up are usually "taken more sserious"...(didnt ask for the source)

as a result, she ALWAYS has her hair up, which i find very annoying.

personally, i dont see a difference....(im a guy so this post mightbe meeaningless to you.)

but...

adcoms are always saying things like "relax" and "be yourself", so i dont know if "professional" should be our aim...i think everything will be okay as long as we look nice and presentable

my ever depreciating .02 cents

Honestly - it doesn't matter!

What matters is - do you "mess" with it? If so, put it up so you can't!

Does it hide your face/eyes? If so, put it up so it doesn't!

Nobody cares what your hair looks like as long as its clean and well groomed.

Just don't "fool around" with it - "flick" it, pull at it, brush at it every few minutes, etc...

The interviewer should be focused on you - not what you're doing with your hair.

Ask a third party if you tend to use your hair as a "prop" when nervous. If so, put it up so you can't do that.

Thanks guys for the response! I think I might wear my hair up since I do play with my hair. 🙄

Actually I think I look better with my hair down

I think this is a very interesting question, especially for those of us with thick curly/wavy hair that is not easy to straighten and doesn't really look "professional". my hair is long and really hard to put up so that its completely away from my face and not messy because then I get headaches
I feel like women with straight hair even if its down are considered more "professional" looking
for my worcester interview, I had it half up half down, and then i put it all up kind of messily because I started getting flustered and warm during the interview
but I was still accepted! so I guess it doesn't make that much of a difference...
what do you all think? 😕

I'd love to be able to put my hair up and have it look professional-- but right now I'm at that stage between having bangs and not having them, so if I pull my hair back, weird pieces stick out all around the front of my head that even bobby pins cannot tame.

Whatever looks professional for you, personally, should work out. As for me? Hair down until it grows out! 😛

Seriously, you should wear your hair any way that you feel most comfortable. When I think "wear it up" I think of a ponytail, which to me is not very professional. Are you talking french twist "wear it up"?

If you don't typically wear your hair up, then I don't think it's a good idea for interviews because you might be wondering if your hair looks silly. Like pharmacogenomic said, as long as it is neat and groomed, it's fine. Try not to play with it during an interview because it is distracting.

The best way to look professional (other than the clothes) is in the way you carry yourself. You want to exude self-confidence (even if you're dying inside - don't let them see!). How? Stand up straight, walk tall, walk like you know where you're going (also called walking with purpose). When you're seated for your interview, sit up straight and hold your head up. These will help you leave a good impression with your interviewers. Good luck. 🙂

FYI - I'm very short, and I always sit/stand straight and walk with purpose. I always have received comments that I carry myself very well. One day, I was walking outside for lunch and one of my bosses said that she'd go wherever I was going for lunch because I looked like I knew where I was going. Truth be told, I didn't have a clue, but I came up with something really quickly!!! LOL

I don't think I would put my hair in a pony tail I was thinking putting my hair in a bun, but i think I would look nicer with it down. I think I will just make a decision when I have my suit on. I guess it just comes down to which hairstyle I'm most comfortable with.

would half up half down and curling the ends be too dramatic??

i think this looks nice yet professional

i might do it just don't know if it is a good idea. with straight hair i feel too plain!!

I don't think the interviewers will even notice how your hair is. I think they would pay more attention to your answers than to your hairdo. You don't get that extra point for having a nice hairdo. Just do your hair however you feel comfortable.

This is a tip for the women:

Learn the fundamentals of body language and master your smile. They will be your best weapon to rocking that interview.

BL -- including smiles and eye contact -- make up atleast 65% of communication.

One thing I noticed is that people smile too immediately when they see people. This DOES NOT stand out.

In order to stand out in an interview, it would be best for you to wait for an extra moment before letting out a nice big smile.

You will work wonders with this tactic I showed you.

Don't believe me? Try it out yourself. You will be breathing proof that this works.

I dont understand why you need to wait a moment to let out the smile??

I think the most professional hair0do is putting it up in a bun...or half up if you have nice hair.

It makes more of an impression. Look the people in the eye, smile, and hold it for a few extra seconds. Shows self confidence (see earlier post in this thread)
