I am currently a second semester Sophmore student at Purdue University and my last semester grades were not good at all. I got a D in physics, C in 2nd semester chemistry and a C in 2nd semester economics, however my other classes were A's. Also my grades for both semesters of biology and 1st semester Chemistry were A's.

Are my chances for Medical school admission completely squashed? What should I do to fix this predicament?

The reason I had such a bad semester was because of family financial reasons, I had to support two jobs while going to school in order to help my family.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Retake the D and only get A's from here on out. If that means you won't have time to hang out with friends... so be it.

As long as your overall GPA is good and this semester was just a fluke, you should just retake the D and resolve to work harder in the future.

Most secondaries give you a chance to explain any personal situations you may have had that most applicants have not dealt with, so that might be an appropriate place to explain the grades if you'd like.

No your chances are not squashed. If you were to retake and make F's then:scared: but I think your fine. I work with alot of UTSW medstudents and I asked them questions like what the make in Ochemistry just out of curiousity and most say they made C's. Just strenghten up other areas of your app.
