It is unethical to send 2 schools a letter of intent (LOI) and it could even get you in trouble if they find out. But what if you only send 1 LOI, but to your second choice school??

For example, if my #1 school I am wait listed at has a rigidly ranked wait list, it won't help me to send an LOI. So let's say I decide to send it to my #2 school instead.

But if I get off the wait list at both schools, I would obviously choose my #1 school. So would I still be in trouble since my #2 school had received my LOI but I'm turning them down??? 😕

No. They can't hold you to anything. An LOI is not a contract at the end of the day.
