What are things you keep in your bag for school? e.g. note-taking materials, useful items used daily.

Explain to us your backpack setup in as much depth as you wish from your type of bag you use to the type of pens you use!

North Face backpack, water bottle on the side, agenda for assigments/events, notebook for each class, graphing calculator, 2 pens, 1 pencil, highlighter, sharpie, gum, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Laptop case with my laptop(replaced by a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition in my final semester of undergrad), a handful of pens and pencils, whatever texts were needed for the day(I was a philosophy[and chemistry] major, so I needed my texts and most of them were not available in electronic format), my wallet, any assignments I needed to turn in, and notebooks(for classes where it would be unreasonable to type out notes, these were replaced by my Galaxy Note in my final semester)

Some pencils, pens, notebooks, textbooks, hookers, Chardonnay, weed, cocaine, phone, highlighters, and china. Can't forget china.

The only reason you might need a bag is if you plan on being out for an extensive period of time. Otherwise I'd say a fair amount of students at my school go at it without a pack. I can't make any claims about there academic performance, and I'll mention I attend a smaller private school. Maybe that's why?

I had a north face backpack. Inside I had a lot of random unused items. I did have a folder for each class though. And stuff to write with.

I have a messenger bag style backpack. I have it on my person so much that I don't really feel right without it.

I carry around my water bottle, wallet, graphing calculator, pens/pencils and the notebooks/folders for all of my classes that day. I also carry select textbooks so I can get work done during breaks between classes.

Jansport bag, pens/pencils, laptop, a book, my phone, keys/wallet, meds, tissues, Jolt gum, plus whatever I need for the class.

It's usually insanely messy.

Jansport backpack as well (they are the best!) and always a calculator as well as a bunch of pens and pencils.

I used an under armor bag that lasted all through undergrad, and I always had my calculator and an extra pen and pencil. I would also bring whatever notebook or text book I needed for the day. I also almost always had my ipad in there for when I had a little downtime between classes and it wasn't worth it to head home. Sometimes I would keep a little money in there in case I wanted to buy a drink on campus or something too.

Oh another good point, some med students seem to switch to very fancy leather bags once in med school.
Something like this:

Will get one of those when my status allows it.

Chrome messenger bag with notebooks, pencil, and sometimes laptop.

Oh gosh, it's a source of shame. Messy, messy shame.

Pens, pencils, calculator, textbooks, notebooks, laptop, 2L water canteen, lotion, caffeine pills, ibuprofen, lunch, expired lunch that I forgot about, trail mix, gum wrappers, glasses case. This makes one puffy backpack. I've been called a turtle several times in my life. 🙁

RELATED QUESTION: I've been thinking about switching to a messenger bag but I don't know if it'll be better or worse. Thoughts?

I have folders for every class (plastic folders with four vertical pockets each... they are cool and hard to explain haha) and a three section notebook for every class too. Pencil case with: Pilot G2 pens of a variety of colours; eraser; mini-stapler; mechanical pencils; and lead. Calculator. Laptop. Laptop charger. Headphones. Notecards. Water bottle. Advil. Glasses.

Iclicker, pens, pencils, 2 calculators (1 graphing, 1 scientific), ipad and stylus pen for notes, charger for ipad and iphone, usually some form of comfortable clothing to change into since I'm usually at school from about 7am to 8pm., big 3 ring binder with dividers, lab manual, and my lab notebook, and my passport from when I went on a trip and was too lazy to take it out of my bag.

One thing that I really do want, and one thing I usually see other top students have, is a water bottle on me at all times. Staying hydrated is key to mental stamina.

I didn't carry it in my backpack but I loved my whiteboard. Thought it was funny when I started teaching and got excited to use a whiteboard every day.

Gave one to my little brother before he started Oraganic. He rocked both semesters with the same professor I had from 9 years ago. Professor still had a horrible comb over.

Ahh, yes, i never took my iclicker out of my bag. I, also, had my iphone charger/ear buds handy.

A few Five Star Notebooks, My 11" Macbook Air (Lifesaver), my TI Calculator, some highlighters, and my Pilot Precise V7 pens (The BEST pens out there, btw)

I've been using Precise V7s since high school and they're the only brand of pen I use!

I haul a TI-89, laptop, couple of notebooks, textbook or two if I'm going to the library to study, V7 pens, one pencil for scantrons, gum, water bottle, chapstick, wallet, keys...

Is this seriously happening? I keep your standard notebook, pen, mechanical pencils, and always some extra looseleaf paper at hand. I do carry a stethoscope, bag-valve mask, first-aid kit, and some goggles with me though. Just in case.

I have been using a messenger bag for years now, and, personally, I think it is much better. It is so much easier to maneuver than a traditional backpack because you don't have to take it all the way off when you need to grab something out of it quickly(e.g. your key card to get into your dorm room).

From a cosmetic standpoint, I am a woman with a very petite frame and the backpack always seemed to overpower me a bit. Even if you are average or large size, the messenger doesn't produce the "turtle" look that backpacks do when overfilled.

If I see someone wearing a backpack in college I either assume they're trying too hard or they're underage drinking.

Regarding underage drinking - Baileys and coffee, mm.

Same lol. For most of college I carried one notebook and a pen.

My god, the synergy between this post, your avatar, and your username is enough to run a Fortune 500 business meeting. Such deep.

For UG: lands end kids backpack (fun colors for <$50!), notebooks/lit novels for the day's classes, laptop, graphing calculator, lab goggles, a sweater for my ice box lecture hall, small umbrella for the daily rain, nalgene water bottle, an apple, half a dozen partially used chapsticks, and a boatload of pens and mechanical pencils that I always lost and then found during my end-of-the-semester cleaning. I didn't go back to my apartment until classes were over, so I always lugged around a full bag. So fun.

Will probably use the same for med school this year, though hopefully with fewer notebooks. 🙂

I literally go crosstown to get the .7's if they're not available by me.

Oh psh, who buys stuff in stores anymore?

http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Retractable-Premium-Roller-Point/dp/B001GAOTSW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404421598&sr=8-1&keywords=pilot pens g2

They even have the whole pink scheme going on (OMG BREAST CANCER AWARENESS!!! BUY ME!!).

Edit: They should just end up making all colors of the spectrum some kind of "awareness" color at this rate, especially considering 99.999% of the proceeds go into companies pockets instead of actual research.
