It looks like I might be able to finish all my pre-reqs by the middle of June of 2013 (final exams for that quarter would end June 8th), and I should have the MCAT completed by then.

If the grades / MCAT were good enough, would I still be capable of applying for that current cycle, so that I could possibly begin medical school in the fall of 2014?

From what I've read (still sort of a n00b), it seems that the "15-month cycle" begins in June. When is the latest that you can send in the initial round of applications to schools?

Thanks!

Anytime in June is early.

Put "latest" out of your mind. With very few exceptions, every story that has "latest" or "deadline" in it, with respect to med school admissions, is a disaster.

Best of luck to you.

Could you explain what you mean by the part in bold??

Thanks, and thanks for the reply!

She means most people who apply near to deadlines for school admissions dont get in.

I have a good friend who applied in December with a 3.9 cGPA 34 MCAT and all the ECs; got no interviews. Re-applied in June/July; was accepted at her 1st med school in September.

Thanks, that makes sense. But it's good to know that, hypothetically, if I have a good MCAT score and good grades by the middle of June of 2013, I should be in reasonably good shape to then start applying for medical schools for the fall 2014 term.

Is this the case for SMP programs as well?

You'd very nearly be in the best possible shape. June 1 is hardly different than June 15 or June 27. Don't sweat this.

No, SMP admissions cycles don't start or finish at the same time as MD admissions cycles, nor are ridiculously high stats necessary to apply to an SMP.
