So, I've been interning at Target for about 2 months now. On the one hand, I'm thankful to have an internship position at all. But on the other, it's a half hour commute, which will get worse in the winter. Also, while my boss is generally nice, she's also very busy, and I always feel like I'm interrupting her with questions. That, coupled with the fact that we don't really 'click' on a conversational level, puts a sort of weird tension between us.

Recently, a classmate told us that a Kohlls location was looking for interns. Not excepting much, I asked her to pass my contact information over to the manager(s). Today, I get a call from a different Kohlls location, asking me to come in for an interview.

Assuming I do end up getting this new internship, how bad would it be if I leave my current internship after a little over 2 months? Assuming I give a 2 week notice, that is.

You don't owe your employer anything. Just follow the proper procedures and there should be no problem. Just do not burn any bridges because pharmacy is a small world.

It's Omaha...the driving won't be too bad during the winter. But go to Kohll's if you can... we had a couple of people in my class who worked there when I was in school and they really liked it.

Think long term. If you stick in retail, who will most likely give you a full time job after graduation? Some people only get float position with no guarantee hours nowadays.

Kohl's has a pharmacy? I get most of my dress shirts there.

Also, 30 min is not a bad drive for an internship. But if you get a better opportunity and leave amicably (give notice so they can find coverage, etc) they probably won't hold it against you if 5-10 years down the line you want an rph gig there.

Yeah, when I first heard it, that's the Kohll's that came to mind too. But this is actually an independent pharmacy, with several locations in the city.

Anyway, after going to the interview (which turned out to be a pre-interview, because afterwards my interviewer gave me an official job app to fill out), and learning more of what they were looking for (as far as availability and work responsibility), I decided to stay with Target.

With the job market today, you have to think long-term? Most, if not all, retail pharmacies hire in-house to start with, esp. with the bigger chains. I would take that into consideration before anything. If you think the future with Kohl is bright for you as a pharmacist, then sure, go about the right way of leaving Target. If not, then I would stick with Target.

Although it's not my place to judge, but a 30 commute isn't much. People drive farther in this economy. My own commute is 90 mile round trip 👎laugh:😡. But you gotta do what you gotta do. But I like my technicians and most of the customers I'm serving so it's not too bad.

Should have read the whole thread before replying. Or maybe just the last post. OP has already stated he is staying with Target.

While Omaha and Southern California do have a lot in common, people in Omaha are known for their impatience when it comes to driving. :meanie:

I commute 45 minutes each way to school, and I would give it up in a heart beat if I could.

As someone who is originally from SoCal, I find it to be more the other way around 😀
