I thought it would be cool to see what a week in the life of residents among the various residency programs is like. If you're a current resident, what is your typical weekly schedule like, how are your surgical and clinical experiences distributed throughout the week, and what are some of the things you like best (or least) about how your residency is set up?

Monday: am meeting, clinic am or surgery am
Tuesday: long surgery day or clinic
Wed: clinic, sometimes surgery
Thu: am education meeting, clinic or sometimes surgery
Fri: surgery day or wound clinic

At the end the individual resident makes their week

difficult to summarize an entire residency routine on a message board. usually it includes on and off service rotations by month, and your off-service rotations may vary drastically. unfortunately there isn't a great way to find out either, best way is to spend a lot of time with residents and ask them lots of questions

What are the average residency hours every week? I recognize that this can be highly variable depending on the service one is on for that week/month, which is why I am asking about average hours.

I am a newbie here, and have done a bit of searching the threads--but I haven't really read anything specifically regarding hours-per-week at various residencies.

You have to look at the each program individually to get an idea of their hours. s.

some are known at 7-5 M-F while others are more demanding, hours may change per the on service call schedule

some will begin at 530 am - 5pm
some are only starts30-60 mins before x scheduled surgeries finishing the day out when the cases are finished
some programs are hospital based and after cases resident may be required to return to the base hospital for various tasks

ave 40-50 hrs per week, call week depending on the business of the program 60 hours +

Podiatric surgery residencies technically are not governed by ACGME rules
