In several of my classes I am going to get A+?s.

Is an A+ worth anything more than an A? Since the A+ has no effect on my gpa, I feel that out of principle I should slack more.

i feel that an A+ is moderately better to perceptably finer in comparion to an A.

I only got one A+ thus far in college. It was in religious studies (History of Judaism).

I really didn't understand what was wrong with this thread. maybe i'm naive, why wouldn't it be "kept nice"?

A+'s look good, especially if you have a lot of them. At my school the pre professional commitee has a tendency to note how many A+'s you get in their composite letters, so aparently they impress some people.

Remember that grades are only part of the picture though (if memory serves me correctly you said in a previous post that you were just starting college). What you do outside of class is just as important as what you do inside of it, perhaps even more so. If the rest of your application isnt good nobody will care how many A+'s you have. Many smart people get rejected from med school because they don't have the other qualities necessary to make a good doctor (you must demonstrate those), and getting all A's when you are doing little else outside of school isn't particularly difficult anyway.

I thought that most colleges don't give out A+'s. None around here anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong...

But if most don't give them out, then it shouldn't have that much of an impact outside of the pre-med committee. i.e. the adcoms don't know if getting the A+ was possible at that particular school.

😕 My university doesn't give out A+ so I don't know how an A+ is caluculated in GPA. Is it counted as 4.5?

at the columbia postbacc program it's a 4.33

If you have a GPA system that counts +'s and -'s, then yes, an A+ is better than an A. But at most schools, where an A-, A, and A+ are all 4.0, it doesn't matter one way or the other what your grade is (to adcoms, at least).

do you really stress out over things like this?

at my school A+'s are the same as A's = 4.0 but A-'s are 3.7

I got an A^2...it was worth 16.0 on a 4.0 scale.

One of my professors is offering an extra credit essay. I am trying to justify my decision to not write it. There is a good chance that I will an A+ without it.

At my school A+ and A is 4., but A- is 3.7. I had never heard of grades greater than 4.0

I think I will make a slight extra effort for A+?s, but not anything extreme. The abundance of A+?s might make up for me choosing not to take the freshman honor courses.

I think the A+ is worth a lot. In some classes or schools there is grade inflation and sometimes 30% of the class ends up with As. If someone sees an A+, it's more likely that you were the top or among the top few students. I think it becomes more important if you are from a lesser known school.

I don't think it makes any difference. Now, if you were applying to dental school, it'd be a big deal, because AADSAS counts an A+ as 4.33.

A+ does look better on paper. It means you are in the top 2-3% of your classes. During my committee interview, my interviewer did note that on my file and said his letter will include "not only does Uegis perform well in his courses, he excels as evident in his number of A+." It might not help that much, but it definitely won't hurt. So don't slack off and go for those A+'s!
