I have a friend who told me that some US medical schools will now accept people with just an AA degree from a community college and the MCAT. I thought maybe he meant the would be accepted into a 7-year program of BS/MD, but he said no, this friend got in straight from community college into a 4-year med program.

Every school I have looked at requires a bachelor's degree. Can someone add insight and settle a bet for us?

Thanks.

Technically some schools will take you without a bachelors degree. Instead they usually require a certain total number of credits (like through Jr. year worth). However, I havent heard of anyone actually getting in without a degree. So I suppose if you got an AA then took a year or two of college classes and got the prereqs done somewhere in there, but didnt quite make it to a bachelors it is possible.

This is more common (although increasingly less common) with PA schools. Especially as a lot of the people who will have the experience for PA schools generally have Associates degrees... surgical techs, resp techs, x-ray techs, nurses.

I know that University of Maryland does not require a Bachelors but it does require: 90 semester hours of accredited arts and science college credit
8 in Biology, 8 in Chem, 8 in Organic Chem, 8 in Physics, and 6 in English.

They also say: Preference is given to applicants who will have earned a bachelor’s degree.
