So here is where I stand. When completing the AACOAMS form it ask for course titles so for example I took English Composition II at one college and failed it however I took it at another school and passed it. While only the attempt showing Pass would count, the courses are the same but titled differently for example college 1 titles English EN 102 - while the other school titles it English Composition ENG 245 (just an example); however it is equivalent to English 2 and it is also the same number of credit units (both on the semester system).

So how do you reflect that they are the same class. I also have the same issue with Calc, its called Calc Elements in 1 School; Calculus 1 in another and Calc for Computer Science Majors which is Equivalent to Calc 1 in the schools handbook; all 3 Calc classes have either the same number of credit hours however Calc for CS majors is the one that I earned credit for; how do I enter it as a repeated course and also the Calc class is a petition course approved by the school because of other course work equivalent so my transcript reflects that I completed the units required for the class but does not show a letter grade of A-D.

Does the Calc class still replace the others and how am I able to show that they are the same class? Do you just use one description for both possibly, like Calc 1 and the dates taken and university titles. Exactly how accurate do you have to be when completing the AACOAMS application. Very few colleges use the exact same course number and even titles for the same courses; they usually vary a bit by institution.

AACOAMS list that repeated courses would be listed like:

Repeat Example 2
Fall Semester 2000 CHEM 3153 Organic Chemistry I: Code as "Repeat 02"
Fall Semester 2001 CHEM 3153 Organic Chemistry I: Code as "Last Repeat 02"

How would I correctly code the English and Calc classes (and please remember the final Calc class does not have a letter grade; just a grade reflecting credit earned).

First off, its AACOMAS not AACOAMS.

Secondly, for the English class, you should label it as I bolded. The first class should be labeled "Repeat xx" where the number is whichever number retake it is. So if its the first class you are labeling as a retake, then its "Retake 01", but if the first class was say Chemistry, the English class would be "Retake 02", etc. This is repeated for all retake courses until the most recent one, which is labeled as "Last Retake xx" where xx is the same number as you labeled the first English course.

OK, that seems complicated to me, so just apply it like this:
English EN 102 - labeled as "Retake 01"
English Composition ENG 245 - labeled as "Last Retake 01"

Third, for calculus, you'd label it like this:

Calc Elements - labeled as "Retake 02"
Some other more recent Calc class - labeled as "Retake 02"
Calc for CS majors - labeled as "Last Retake 02"

Here's the thing though. The course you use for credit must be the last course you take. In other words, only the last course you take counts towards your grade. As far as taking it for credit, what does that mean? Pass/Fail? I'm not sure that if you take a course for a grade, then take a retake for P/F, you can count the latter class as a replacement, since no grade was applied. I'm not sure about this, but I would label it like I mentioned, then see if the grade is replaced in the calculation.

How many times did you take calc? List it out in order, name, and whether you received a grade, and I can tell you how to code it.

Calculus for Comp. Science I CSC 208 2013 - Grade S Credits( Quarter Units): 4.5
Elements of Calculus MAT 112 - 2009 - Grade D Credits (Semester) 4.00
Calculus I F 2008 MA 245 - 2008 - Grade F Credits (Semester) 4.00

"S Satisfactory -
Signifies acceptable work. No grade points are assigned." - Schools description

For the calc class I am petitioning it; now if its approved S would be the assigned grade. Please let me know of how you would code it and also if I am just better off retaking the class altogether at a CC considering that there are some differences in the quarterly conversion at my current school. The only reason I would be taking Calc is to improve the original bad grades and to have the opportunity to apply to MD programs as well as DO (even though I am focusing on DO I must keep all options open).

Edit: Another question is would an MD program accept the D to meet the pre-req requirement for Calc unless otherwise stated?

I know poor grades in Calc doesn't look good on a transcript however many Med schools don't even require it and instead ask for statistics; which I already have.

Thanks

Calculus 1 - 2008 - labeled as "Retake 01" (or whatever number retake it is)
Elements of Calculus - 2009 - labeled as "Retake 01"
Calculus for Comp. Science 1 - 2013 - labeled as "Last Retake 01"

Its tough, because for sure Elements of Calculus could replace Calc 1, but I'm really not sure a S course could replace a graded course. I would send AACOMAS that as a question. Best case scenario, you get your school to change it to an assigned grade (preferably a B or above).

You could always just take it at a CC, and then you wouldn't have to worry about it, but I would ask AACOMAS first. Also, if you do end up taking at the CC make sure that the CC has it as a course with at least 4 credits. Then you would label it as follows:

Calculus 1 - 2008 - labeled as "Retake 01"
Elements of Calculus - 2009 - labeled as "Retake 01"
CC Calculus 1 - 2013 - labeled as "Last Retake 01"

Short answer: No. Slightly longer answer: Maybe.

It obviously varies by school, as you said. If the school requires Calc, then it would not be acceptable as the pre-reqs usually have to be at least a C or above (in some cases a B- or above).

Thanks, I have a slightly better handle on the process now. It appears I need to just suck it up and retake Calc; the only thing is that it is definitely going to hurt with my current work load. I am deliberately trying to avoid overwhelming my brain hence I am only doing one class at a time on the quarter system. I'll probably reach out the AACOMAS. There is also the danger of not doing well in Calc; I have gotten A's in Financial Accounting; Computer Science and even began enjoy statistics but I wrapping my brain around Calc is so hard because I subconsciously know even as a researcher I would not use it.
