What is the value of attending an AACSB professionally accredited institution vs. REGIONALLY ACCREDITED institution for those like us with advanced degrees (MD/DO), who desires a MBA degree as a lateral degree...compared to straight MBA students. I am not talking about schools like U of Phoenix or Regis University. I want to know about local schools.

Here is the situation... I am not a fan of the online distance education. I do not learn well under that format. In addition, I do not feel that I have the time to go through a full-time rigorous program while at the same time be a practicing internist. Priorities include program flexibility and affordability. Brand name institution (i.e. Harvard, John Hopkins, NYU, etc) is not a concern for me. Or SHOULD it be??

I don't doubt the value of AACSB accreditation. I realize that obtaining MBA from AACSB accredited school is MORE "meaningful/credible" for those whose primary career is BUSINESS. But how about individuals like us whose primary career is medicine, who plan to run an efficient practice and hope to become a medical director one day? How is this (accredited regionally, just not professionally) viewed by hospital administrators? How about your marketability for jobs?

Any comments appreciated. Thanks!

Differences in accrediation

Pretty much the only difference might be the quality of education in reference to finding a program to tailor to your needs. If you are looking for healthcare manangement or something of the sorts, most likely you would probably be more successful at an AACSB school as they would most likely offer different tracks for you to get your MBA. If you find a program that has regional accrediation and its known for a solid MBA program, I don't see a problem with it. As long as you know the curriculum is stable and what you are looking for. Many MBA programs can give a great overview of how business works, but I would suggest at least looking into AACSB programs first as they are the "higher" tiered school in reference to academic standard (and there are a couple hundred here in the US). As long as its accredited by a recognized agency of the DOE you can get financial aid.

Wish I could of more help. Are you looking at a particular region of the country for this program?

Thanks!

Anybody else have an opinion on this? How about those who work with individuals with MD/MBA?
