Basically, I just started my senior year and am trying to figure out what to do about this application cycle. I am way behind on the ball because I was hesitant to submit my AADSAS application until I had seen my DAT scores.

I am content with my scores, especially after struggling with the BIO and PAT. BIO had some very weird, specific questions on it and then the angles on the PAT, whether they were harder than CDP or not idk, stumped me...might have missed half of them. I guess O Chem is really what saved me:

PAT 20
QR 19
RC 23
BIO 19 :/
GC 22
OC 29 🙂
TS 21
AA 22

Now, the question is can I still be a competitive applicant submitting AADSAS by the end of this week?

Other stats:
Sub-par GPA of 3.45 and science of 3.32. I have a 3.91 over the past 3 semesters, hoping that upward trend will be recognized.
80+ hours of dental shadowing.
100+ hours of volunteering with ~50 hours at dentistry related events.

WHAT DO I DO?!

P.S. OHSU is pretty much all I care about...but also considering: Creighton, Loma Linda, UoP, BU, Tufts, UC- Denver...

also...why don't people post proof of scores? I guess I am just hesitant to believe all of the very high scores on SDN 😛

sorry it's blurry, but proof nonetheless:

lol. I don't see why people would lie? To make people who you don't know envious of someone they don't know? lol. People are honest about their scores here. There really is that many high scores on SDN. Kind of scary right?

what method did you use for rc?
To be honest, I didn't really prepare a whole lot for this section, because I tend to do pretty well on these kinds of tests. The strategy that worked best for me, not sure it would work for anyone else, was reading through the passage fairly quickly. At a pace that allowed me to understand the context of the passage as well as a general outline, which gave me enough familiarity to answer questions such about tone and to make inferences. On more specific, detail oriented questions, this strategy allowed me to quickly locate the paragraph(s) of interest and reread them more thoroughly.

Remember, people who like their scores are more likely to share them! I don't think it's too late, but don't wait any longer. Have you already opened an AADSAS account and had your transcripts submitted? That seems to be what takes the longest, getting your transcripts in, verified, and GPA calculated. Also, do you have your LOE's lined out? I thought I had all of mine lined out but ended up waiting a month for two of them, so make sure whoever is writing them understands the time frame. I think it's worth 1-2 grand to potentially not have to wait another year, but it's ultimately a personal decision.

oh yes, why would anyone lie on the internet? Haha. I was mostly being facetious, but at the same time, as a redditor I tend to doubt people's validity without proof. Especially as karma is essentially all gained through lying.

Nonetheless, does anyone have any feedback on my AADSAS application? I know it would have been ideal to have submitted it on June 4th, but that not being the case...

How long has it taken AADSAS to review your application after e-submiting? If it does take 6 weeks, will my application still be reviewed if it is not submitted until mid-October?

As far as the application goes, all my LOEs (letters of evaluation I am assuming?) have been submitted as well as AADSAS has already received my transcripts with my transcript matching form or whatever.

I am just worried because OHSU recommends that your application is "submitted" by labor day weekend. Does that mean e-submitted? Or AADSAS has sent them the processed application?

You're almost there, then. You won't make it by Labor Day weekend, obviously, but It won't take another six weeks either. I'd say 2-3 weeks get the DAT scores in and for AADSAS to calculate your GPA, but they won't start verifying your transcripts until you e-submit. Just because they recommend it by a certain date doesn't mean they are going to reject it outright because it's a couple weeks later. And a couple weeks late certainly gives you a better chance than not submitting at all! 🙂 So get off this site and go e-submit!

Probably because a) they don't feel the need to prove their scores to random strangers on SDN, or b) they're full of poop, I've seen a few of those on SDN. But most likely because of reason a.

I finally submitted my application. It took me longer than I thought to edit my personal statement...but finally it is out of my hands.

I thought I would feel accomplished, but instead I just feel anxious and powerless...

I definitely know the feeling. Have fun dealing with AADSAS.

Thanks for the support SDN, I wasn't sure I was gonna make it through this application process, but constantly checking the forums I gained some insight that kept me afloat.

Finally had my GPA verified. I didn't know they did two GPAs for each, one with +/- and one without...are there any schools that actually look at the GPA without +/-?

It actually would help me out a little bit because I have alottttt of A-'s haha

OHSU seems to put a lot of emphasis on getting the application in early in the cycle. So, if you really want to be a competitive applicant to that school it may not be worth spending the money for the application this year. Go to their website and read what they said about applying early. They say something about getting it in at the end of July or beginning of August at the latest. That may not be exact but I know that's the feeling I got when I was researching them.

I know what it says on their website, to have your application submitted by labor day to be competitive, but the pre-dental president at my school researched there over the summer and got a low down from the adcoms.

They were so behind on last years entering class that they not only didn't fill their class until a week before school started, but also that they will not be reviewing applications for this cycle until December.

I know 3 people currently at OHSU and none of them received Pre-December interviews...

Also, when I called the office of admissions told me that there is not really an advantage to an early interview at OHSU anyways, because they don't accept applicants until they have conducted all of their interviews.

O wow, well I wish I would have known that before I applied. They made it sound like they fill their class by mid-August. Haha

You can definitely still add them to your application if you want to. I don't know if you are in state or OOS, but OHSU is relatively OOS friendly. And if you are in state, even better: 122 in state applicants, 69 interviewed, and 49 enrolled 🙂

My "old" version of ADEA (2011) shows that the 2010 OHSU class was 49-26. In my opinion, it is definitely worth the $90 for AADSAS and $75 for supplemental. I know lots of alumni from OHSU and they all highly recommend it. Also, supposedly there will be a new dental building by 2014, which will be awesome!

Best of luck, PM me if you want/I'd like to hear what you to decide
