A microbe pathogen was hypothesized as the causative agent of the disease because
I. suspicious objects were found in blood samples from ill patients
II.in vitro cultivation of the probable pathogen was difficult
II. the diseas was infections

from the passage i know its not II for sure
and i know II is one of the answers im stuck on I they say in the passage that they see nothing w/ the light microscope but then they use a electron microscope on the same sample and find "spherically shaped objects inside white blood cells"

the answer AAMC provides as to why I isn't a choice ice lame

"option I can not be correct because it refers to particles found in the blood."......correct me if im wrong but doesn't using an EM to find viruses ("spherically shaped objects") indicate that your finding suspicious objects in the blood??

I missed this question as well for that exact thinking. I thought I was a correct statement since they did find it using the electron microscope, but I guess, that was done after the "hypothesis." It's annoying how rigid they go with terms like "hypothesize". How would we know where the border is before and after the hypothesis?

I also struggled with this question. So the question stem is actually asking what made them think/become suspicious that a microbe was causing the disease?

Put yourself in the situation....you see people are getting infected via (whatever means)...would you not suspect that as a result of the infection that a bacteria may be the causative agent?

Additionally, its after they became suspicious that they went further and looked at the blood samples. The question (i repeat) is asking what made them suspicious.

Sorry if I further confused you.

Well, the fact that they used a light microscope in the beginning, then an electron microscope after...where would we consider where the end of the hypothesis was? It seemed like both use of microscope were contributing to their curiosity. The question was just really misleading, adding to what was stated in the passage.

why would they look at blood samples in the first place. There must be some reason to 'suspect' to investigate further.

Okay here's my thought now. When "hypothesizing", it is before undergoing any experiments, but merely basing the hypothesis from only observations.

Folktale is right. The passage clearly says the hypothesis was made before using the electron scope. BS is just as much VR as it is science knowledge. Re-read the second sentence and take special care to notice the word "however."
