It is the only answer that makes sense. 1 is untrue because the first sentence in the passage establishes that no such objects were found in blood. 2 is also incorrect, because that would go against suspecting microbial agents. 3 is the only one that makes sense, and that is the best answer.

I guess I was thinking too much into it. It makes sense to me now if I only think of it in terms of the passage. But I think both viral and microbial diseases are infectious.
