When it talked about reflectance of UV, I thought it meant that the higher the reflectance of UV the less is absorbed by the lizards and therefore they are less dependent on it. But the passage questions and everything else suggest that the higher the reflectance, the more they rely on it?

Can any one help me? I'm confused by this passage.

I just did 8 this weekend, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong

And you're right, higher reflectance = less absorption

But from my understanding, they were saying lizards had these UV receptors in their eyes, and they use UV as one of their modes of communication (just as humans use voice to communicate). So basically the UV reflected by the tongue is used to communicated between say two lizards of the same species (one lizard reflects UV from its tongue to another lizard receiving the UV in its eyes). Therefore, it would make sense from an evolutionary standpoint that the higher the reflectance of UV of lizard A, the more likely lizard A depends of UV for communication within all the lizard A's (because their tongue has evolved to reflect more UV than say lizard B, who might not depend as much on UV for communication than A)

Ah ok. That makes sense. I didn't get the whole thing about the more you reflect the better you communicate.
