AAMC packet C/P #3 (really confusing orgo)

I can basically narrow it down to A or B, but totally am not buying their explanation for B. They say verbatim any reaction that includes just #4 or just #5 would determine if you can create #6, suggesting A. They then say having both compounds in solution with IDO creates unnecessary complexity, suggesting B is incorrect. Why is it the correct answer then? (The other parts of the passage is totally irrelevant)
 
The question stem asks to show that 6 doesn't come from 4 or 5. Choice (a) describes 4 + 5 -> 6 which is different.

For either 4 or 5 or become 6, they have to be oxidized. This is what choice (b) describes. I think when they say the part about "having both compounds in solution with IDO creates unnecessary complexity" they are referencing the fact that if oxidizing 4 / 5 gives 6, additional analysis still has to occur to figure out if it came from 4, 5, or both.

This was from the one they published online (~60 pages) with data about the new MCAT percentiles and curves. I think it was called "Using MCAT data in medical student selection" or something. Its a pdf
 
Yea for that one I thought it was D because thats the only channel that uses ATP. You get ATP from glycolysis. All the other ones either doesnt use a channel (A) or uses facilitated diffusion (B and C).

Oh and I totally agree. AAMC explanations suck big time. If only they spent less time explaining which category of questions something is and more on how to actually solve the problem.
