Took the AAMC sample FL for my first FL ever. Here's what I ended up getting:

Definitely going to bring the bio passages to a professor or a good MCAT tutor to pick their brain to see what the heck went wrong there >< I do know I got caught up in a passage or two that I had no idea wtf was going on lol.

Anyways, like I said, this is my first FL ever so I don't know how to convert this thing into a score (if that's even possible).

Don't touch anymore AAMC tests; those are used when you're almost to your test date so to get a representation of what your final score will be.

Using the predictor that only works on these tests, you would receive around a 511. Check this out for more details about what you'd definitely get and what you're likely to get.

Yeah I figured I'd get a feel for an AAMC product before doing the 3rd party FL's. Won't be touching FL 1/2/3 until closer to my test date (which is April something).

I feel like 511 is too generous though seeing as I got sub 80% in 3 sections...?

Right. I messed up . Sorry about that. 507, give or take deviations up and down.

I also think that score is quite generous. There is a spreadsheet on reddit, heres the link to it:

I took my number correct and matched that up with the scores with their corresponding scales from the other 3 other scaled AAMC scores. i.e. in c/p, for AAMC 1 and 2 you got a 126 and for AAMC 3 there isn't data but it appears between 126 and 127. take all three, average them for each section.

FWIW, I took the sample a week before I took AAMC 3 and by using those conversions I got a 510 according to that; then when I took AAMC 3 I got a 511 so while a guess, you're probably within a couple of what comes out.

Using this, you got a 126/124/124/127 which is a 501. Definitely don't play with AAMC material for a bit except for possibly their Q packs.

Thanks for the help. Why do you recommend not using AAMC material for a bit?

PS. I chose to take this AAMC sample test in order to get somewhat of a feel for an AAMC test before I switch to 3rd party FL's

It was a good call to use the sample as opposed to FL1,2, or 3 so that you have an idea as to what to expect on the test; but from here on out take those results as an indicator on what you need to focus on. Check out the reddit psych document and you should be fine there with that 127 initially. CARS takes the longest to improve on so I'd start doing practice passages for that starting now until the test. KA has pretty good passages for it albeit a bit easier than other companies, it is a solid start though and they explain things well. The point in not taking more AAMC material right now is that without the solid content foundation required to do well on them, they are only going to be telling you that you lack the necessary background (which you already know at this point). Considering the scarcity of that material and how accurate of a gauge it is for your performance on the real deal, one should use their exams when they feel as though they are where they need to be. Thats why everyone says to wait until the last month for them, I'd recommend the last 5 weeks to make sure that you can go through everything in detail (my $.02).

I found the sample test to be a pretty good in terms of predicting my score. There's a score conversion chart floating around reddit that is really helpful. However, no practice test is perfect and no simulation will ever be like the actual test. Take the scores as a general guideline rather than an absolute.

Would it be a good idea for me to do 3rd party FL's and review whatever content things I miss from those? I seriously don't think just sitting down and reviewing content straight up is that effective because it seems so passive. Also, I don't know if I'm missing all that much content tbh b/c I think it's more of a testing speed issue for me. I aced all my pre-med courses and got pretty good at each piece of content at some point in my pre-med career. I literally didn't even reach question like #45 on 3 out of 4 of the sections of this FL xD

If you timing is an issue then that is a relatively easy fix. I'm working on that right now myself and have been doing so by pounding out 3rd party FLs. It isn't any fun and 3rd party FLs have super deflated scores which doesn't make for confidence, but it can certainly help in practicing going through all of the material in the right amount of time as well as pointing out the holes in your understanding by looking at what you get wrong. I plan on doing a few more this week so that by the time I take the test it will be a matter of habit as opposed to a stressful/novel situation. If timing is your problem as opposed to content understanding, I consider it a good problem to have.
