? ab curve shifting

will someone please give me an idea of what it means for a curve to shift to the left..(or right) like it BP or oxygen absorbtion...thnx

Shift to the right means a decrease in oxygen affinity. Hemoglobin wants to release oxygen because of such conditions as high temperature, low pH, high C02.

Shift to left is increase in oxygen affinity. Hemoglobin wants to bind to oxygen because of all opposite of the conditions listed above.

Thanks for the response..so what would the x and y axis be given your example...sorry this is prob a simple ? but i cant seem to get the freakin thing to make sense...AHHHHH mental blocks 😱

if i am understanding your question correctly, then x axis is the oxygen content and y axis is saturation of hemoglobin

x-yes (oxygen is a gas, so use pressure rather than conc.)
y-yes, it can be this, you are saying something similar to what is written above "saturation of hemoglobin". Typically, you refer to it as theta, i.e. fraction of binding sites occupied by ligand (in this case, fraction of Hb binding sites occupied by O2)
