hello everyone,

I'm not sure if this question was asked earlier, but i was just wondering if it's okay to use abbrevaition for school's name on the 2ndaries essays? For example, George Washington University School of Medicine = GWUMC. Is this okay? or should i just not use abbrev.
Thanks

Well, GWUSOM being the appropriate abreviation, I would avoid GWUMC. (Personally, I just go GW)

Otherwise, I stick with the rule: Say the school's name once, then you're free to abreviate.

agreed. there's a certain sense of presitige an adcom gets when he reads "Emory University School of Medicine" as opposed to just EUSOM. Say it out once, then abbreviate. To second Depakote, go with abbreviations that don't look weird as well, as he said, GW as opposed to GWSOM. it looks neater and you say the same thing.
