One of my former associates texted me for advice. He will be taking his recert exam for the ABFAS foot surgery category. He’s been in practice over 20 years.

He asked me about the Goldfarb course and whether it’s worth it. He also asked if he does decide on Goldfarb, should he simply purchase the book/e book or should he also take the actual course.

I don’t have an answer for him, and I’m only familiar with the book and not the course.

Any comments based on actual personal experience would be appreciated, or any other worthwhile courses or material would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Do you know if he's taking it ahead of schedule? When I recertified a few years ago the ABFAS allowed us to take it starting three years before our original certification expires. If he's ahead of schedule then I suggest he take it without having done any formal prep course. Then, if he doesn't pass, do a review course and retake the test the following year. I reviewed using the Podiatry Institute handbook and emedicine.com and got a "high pass" score or whatever they called it. Recertification was far easier than the certification process. It's an adaptive test so he may feel as if he's not doing well while he's taking it.

Thanks. I believe it’s the first year in the cycle.

"Early in the cycle" would've been a better way for me to state it than "ahead of schedule." I knew it sounded funny.

I obviously have a better command of the English language.🙂
