Hello everyone,

I am getting my AA next semester at my local community college! However, I so far have only registered for 59 credit hours. So I need 1 more credit hour in any class really.

Problem is, there are so many choices that I cannot make up my mind on what to take.

Ive narrowed it down to two classes, abnormal psychology and introductory sociology. I've heard that abnormal psych is fun, but I have already taken 2 psychology classes (general psych and developmental)

Which class would you guys take if you were in my shoes? Any other recommendations are welcomed!

Both will help you on the MCAT. If it doesn't matter I'd just take sociology, it's much easier (at least at my school). If you're particularly aware of current events and social terminology (is u woke?) then you will fly by the class without any problems at all.

Abnormal psych for us was all about learning about psychiatric disorders, the DSM-V diagnostic criteria, treatment options (including effective therapies and medications), rare cases, and complications. It was honestly quite a bit of work, but very very very interesting.

Of course feelings for this varies from person to person, these are my personal opinions. Take it with a grain of salt!

Was your abnormal psychology a 300 level class? At my school it is a 200 level class. Will this make a huge difference?

It was a 200 level class and was notorious for being more difficult that the other psych classes. Honestly, it was moreso about memorization than anything else for us.

I'd take sociology. Diversify your background and help you prepare for the mcat at the same time. But, if the professor is better for abnormal or it works better with your schedule, then go with that.

As a followup question: how helpful is a sociology course when it comes to studying for the mcat. My school doesn't offer the course and I'll either have to self study or cross register at the nearby university in order to take it.
