Hi,

My name is Ken. I am currently using Ch31 for my dental career path (prereq included). I encounter an issue which they don't want to approve me for upper-level courses because they are not absolutely required. I already don't have a bachelor and taking more upper-level classes is my only way to compete with other traditional applicant. Also, I told them that I need to apply for more than one school for a better chance of getting admitted, and different school has a slightly difference on the admission requirement. But seems they only recognize the requirement of University of Washington which I picked when I started CH31. They told me that I just need to pick one school to develop a plan for approval. But only apply for one school and not taking upper-level classes while not having a bachelor is kinda set for failure. Do you guys have any idea or advice for the issue I am having now? Please let me know. I am already kinda late for submitting the application. But if I don't get this issue fixed, I don't have any confidence on my application. Please please give me some ideas. I greatly appreciate it!

What does your IWRP say?

If you've been approved to utilize VR&E, the IWRP is what your counselor should be using to get you all the appropriate material/classes for your end-goal. Are they only going off of current prerequisites + dental school at University of Washington because that is what you discussed for approval? Seems strange that you received an approval for only pre-reqs plus a single dental school program when you may/may not be accepted to the program.

if this wasn't discussed in detail prior to accepting the rehabilitation plan (would be a critical error on your counselors part), then you could set up a meeting to discuss key services you need in order to achieve goals/objectives leading to entry level employment (i.e., being a dentist). I'll spare the details, but depending on the cost of school (perhaps Univ. of Washington is cheaper), you may need additional signatures up the chain of command. This may be the reason you were only approved for one program vs a more expensive school.

If you could give more details in the IWRP, that'd help on what you could do. It may help to look at the following link (specifically 38 CFR 21.94)
CFR 38 - Individualized Written Rehabilitation Plan
