how important is the writing score compared to the overall score ..verbal/quant?..

i think your best bet would be to ask the schools you want to apply to that question. most schools i've encountered are pretty open about this.

Based on my experience from the schools I applied to, the writing component is looked upon highly. The MPH is a graduate level program and expect graduate students to know how to write a paper. I would say do not get less than a 5. 4 is average, and is frowned upon by some universities. I would suggest getting/reading the Princeton Review writing section for the GRE if you are worried about writing an essay.

hehe, i meant "pretty open about this" as they are open to telling you what they expect in terms of GRE scores. I didn't mean that they are open to a wide range of writing scores.
