abused med student

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
the intern on my team called me a "Scutmonkey" repeatedly. one day he even called up a restaurant and told them that he was sending his scutmonkeys (me and hte other med student) to pick up food for him. he also told me to wear leather and a whip one day. bottom line: its ur education and ur 50 grand. nobody needs to treat u like that. if u feel like ur doing scut and not learning, tell ur clerkship director and they should take care of it.

Shame on you for not taking him to the side and explaining the rules of civilized behaivior.

I would not hesitate to "read the riot act" to any resident, intern, or attending, who treated me disrespectfully. But legitimate criticism and direction are not disrespectful so you have to be carfeful not to get an attitude. A little bit of sarcasm from a resident is natural and to be expected if you have ****ed up.

And an intern is a nobody, by the way.

Where are you people going to school that you don't feel like you have the support of your clerkship offices to help you resolve these situations?

fyi it was taken care of appropriately by my clerkship director. and my point was that one should not think its ok to be treated in a disrespectful way just because you are at the bottom of the totem pole. and to panda bear i did not talk mention how i handled it but i did in the nicest way possible.
