Can someone explain gram positive and gram negative to me? I have always wondered what the difference is. I know it has something to do with staining (?) But that's all I know. Kinda interested to learn about them.

You’ll learn this when you take microbiology, but:

Bacterial cells stain a certain color based on the composition of their cell wall. Certain antibiotics’ mechanism of action involves acting on the cell wall. Thus we care.

Yeah, ID isn't so cut and dried. There's so much more to deciding the right abx than following a chart (allergies, PO or IV availability, local susceptibility, site of infection, adverse effects, pregnancy, age, etc)
