I have a friend who is starting undergrad. over. Does anyone know of any DO schools where the admissions committee is willing to disregard past grades if someone has taken the equivalent courses and has earned a higher grade?

I remember Western University in southern California saying something about this.

All DO schools to my knowledge do grade replacement...

Yes they are okay with grade replacements, as long as you are willing to definitely explain the previous grade that was bad.

All those that use AACOMAS as their application service...which is all except TCOM.

Just be sure to look up the rules for equivalency...

I don't know them off hand but I think the new classes have to be the same or more credit hours for one thing.

Who determines if it qualifies? How can you make sure you are not wasting your time? Is it cut and dry or is there a gray area? I have not been able to get a clear answer yet.

I've been trying too! Well, my fiance is currently taking classes at a CC, so if the classes she took articluates with the ones at the university in which she transfers, then I think it's a safe bet that those will be equivalent to whatever it is she wants to replace. If it doesn't, then she will need to re-take those classes at the university regardless of how she performed. But the units that don't transfer will still be counted.

But I'm not sure how you could tell for students already in 4 year colleges. This might be something to ask your pre-medical advisor about.

I just listed one course as a retake even though it was slightly different. But it was a higher level course and was worth more credits, so I was fairly confident that they would accept it and they did. Use your best judgment. If you are unsure, call them.
