academic fresh start?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes you have to report every college level class you ever took and if you dont and they find out by by to you even if you are into a medical school already..

Only TX has a program that would be relevant for getting into med school, to the best of my knowledge. They'll wipe out grades that are 10+ years old, which supposedly is respected as you apply to TX state med schools.

Otherwise, you have to submit every transcript you have. There are a number of ways a med school can find out you didn't submit one, such as a history of financial aid, or the school participating in one of the enrollment verification programs. This is one of the ways you can get kicked out of med school, such as in 3rd year when you're already $150k in debt.

When you activate academic fresh start, Texas public university transcript indicates that you activated academic fresh start. In turn, TMDSAS removes all academic coursework more than 10 years old when you submit applications to Texas public medical schools through TMDSAS. So Texas public medical schools will never see them. So we still submit all academic coursework, but TMDSAS removes them for you.

This is not a random thing. It is a provision on Texas Education Code. Here is info on Academic Fresh Start on College for Texans Website.

Baylor College of Medicine is a whole different ball game since they use AMCAS, not TMDSAS.

I am seriously considering this option since my undergrad GPA keeps haunting me like a bad dream...

However, I need to come up with 30 credits to transfer into UT Austin with since transfer admission counselor told me that acadimic fresh start gets acitvated before they evaluate for admission. All my college coursework is more than 10 years old. So I will have to come up with 30 credits to transfer into UT Austin with as Post Bacc student.

I hope this helps.

even with academic "fresh start" rules, a lot of universities still include old courses and grades in transcripts and amcas calculates them into the GPA. Even when the grades do not show up on the transcript but there is a note about an "academic restart," a school sometimes will still have records of these grades and can be pursuaded into releasing them by other academic institutions.

Academic fresh start ONLY APPLIES to enrolling in Texas public universities and applying to Texas public medical schools through TMDSAS based on Texas Education Code.

This DOES NOT APPLY to enrolling in Texas private universities or applying to any other medical schools through AMCAS.

Also, remember that academic cousework more than 10 years old will be on your transcript and will be removed by TMDSAS if you activate academic fresh start.

some other universities have an internal "academic fresh start" rule. they don't bear any weight on amcas just to clarify.
