Hi everyone,
I am looking to start a residency in the US this year and I was hoping to find some options for ROS in academics. Since I am interested in the academic career track (clinician scientist), I would hate to have that 2 yr hiatus when I am fresh out of residency+fellowship towards ROS if its not in academics. Is it impossible to imagine that places like UToronto, McMaster would hire people for their return of service? Can you work with past mentors at these univ in research or clinical or both capacities and have that accounted for as ROS?
If the above is not possible, is there ANY way to avoid the ROS in Canada and do a waiver in the US? My last conversation with health canada sounded pretty absolute in the sense that you have to come back but then again I know of some examples who continued on in ths US. A waiver seems more appealing than ROS since I know of a few people continuing with the research they started in their fellowship while doing a waiver at a VA of some major univ.
I hope to hear from people who have trained in the US and have come back to academics in Canada or anyone intending to do so. Thanks 🙂
