What do some of you know about salaries for various academic physicians? The AAMC data is useful, but unfortunately a conglomerate of many many academic physicians. I understand that the variability can be tremendous. For example, I've heard of an academic cardiologist being offerred $85,000 while another academic neurologist was offerred $120,000 starting salary. How does this work? Are salaries pegged to production at all? How is research grant money accounted into your salary?

Any info on this would be very helpful to me and probably to many others on the forum. Thanks!
