Just wondering if the academic update during december-febuary is mandatory or recommended?

I'm not doing too hot in some of my classes and my GPA is already high so I don't necessarily want to submit an update which lowers my GPA. Can I just not update so I can get interviews/acceptances based on what I've submitted?

Mandatory, AADSAS will find out if you took courses but did not report them

But AADSAS themselves says that the academic update is an optional process

I was wondering if dental schools care though, since they ask for official transcripts anyways once accepted

Not mandatory but schools know what's up when a student doesn't update and they might hold off on moving forward with your app. Schools know how senioritis is a very real thing and they want to make sure you're still keeping up with school throughout the application cycle, not just banking on your past trends.

If you put in-progress/planned summer and fall courses down on your app, schools will be expecting to see the grades of those courses during the two academic update periods.

So I guess the question is- is no update better than bad update or the other way around?
