Time is flying! 🙂 Next month is already November, and if I remember correctly... November is the start month of the academic update. My question is: how exactly does the academic update work? For instance, do we just send in our transcripts to AADSAS and then schools periodically review our AADSAS applications again?

If I remember correctly from last year that I did the AU, I believe they let you update the coursework section on the application. Then, you must send in your updated transcript to reflect the new courses/grades. After, they are verified (doesn't take too long), the new updated app gets sent to schools electronically. I think the schools get some kind of message from AADSAS about the AU for a particular student (Not so sure about this) but I'm pretty sure every school has a way to check for new course updates. Best bet is to notify the school(s).

hope this helps🙂

seeing as how i wouldn't get any new grades until the end of dec...should i just send a transcript with the courses?

The AU runs from November 16 to February 1 according to the site.

seems like this is necessary once admitted. I dont know if this would make or break an application right now because Fall 2011 grades aren't in yet. So its really no different than the coursework section (unless you have summer 2011 grades that were previously missing.)

Not necessarily true. While most schools don't have a preference wether or not you have completed your PreReqs or have them planned and you can still get an invitation/acceptance prior to completing your PreReqs, some schools, LECOM comes to mind, put your application on hold until you have completed your PreReq OR plan to take those PreReqs. Which means if on the AADSAS you did not put down the PreReqs, but ended up taking them after submission, you are out of luck.

I would still recommend doing AU even without grades, and then do it again when the grades are out. Then again, this is my first cycle applying (knock on wood) and anyone who has experiences feel free to let us all know as to how the process works.

Why wouldn't you put down pending prereqs in the future coursework section? thats a lot easier than doing AU and the reason that Future coursework was created. but hey we cant be all smart like you Cedar, after all you understand that predents is a rouse to "steal your info" and you have been wiser than anyone else by simply ignoring it all together, instead of helping your fellow predents. 🤣

Because I was taking other classes? Then decided to switch my classes around therefore my Future Coursework Section had classes I was planning on taking that didn't include the PreReqs that I am no longer taking?

Hey, MrAvicii, you can troll all you want. Maybe if you be more rude, keep changing the subjects of the thread to get to me, maybe I'll eventually make a PreDent. Who knows, the little rich bratty girl in the movies always gets her way in the end? Oh, wait...

Also, "steal my info" lol? You are mad, aren't you? Very bad. I told you if you were so intrigued by my stats, I have my full DAT breakout with GPA + schools I applied to on a thread I created. I'm hiding behind a public post 🤣

Hey, Mr. Avicii, please update PreDents profile. No one is trying to stalk you and find you on the date of your interview, you don't have to just put a month down.

my months are correct. my dates are off. i will update when you update. all day baby all day.

The dialogue between you two about predents gives me a good chuckle everyday. Thanks guys

you got it luffy! gotta treat jerks as they are! 👍

I'm a jerk because I don't have a PreDents. Makes sense.

I guess that makes about 75% of the applicant pool "jerks" 👍

Hey, don't be upset you don't get to see my score. It's ok. If I had to do a Post-Bac to attempt to get into DS, I'd want to see other people's scores to make me feel better about myself too. "Ohhh, he has lower stats than me, I'm golden "

Yeah, I went there. Cause honestly, this forum is about helping other people. I don't have to have a PreDents to help others. I give perfectly valid information and advice by just posting on the forum. Having a PreDent is a user's personal choice, and if they don't want to, respect that. You've been a complete ass about it, and frankly, coming from someone who only made their PreDents about 2 weeks ago, you sure complain a lot about people not having PreDents.

you're just a jerk in general! not just because of predents, ive seen many of your posts.

Also, I don't care if you don't update. Honestly, when you have your interviews doesn't really affect me. Knowing your stats also won't affect my chances of getting into a certain school. Just stop sending me PMs and replying to posts I make on other threads that say "make a PreDents"

Stay on topic. Our membership encourages open discussion and debate as long as it relates to the topic of the thread at hand. Posts which do not relate to the original purpose or topic of the thread may be moved to a more appropriate location.

Harassment and Flame-Wars burn everyone. Again, be courteous. Just ignore those guests that can't discuss topics professionally. Remember, the academic healthcare community is relatively small; don't behave in a manner which might get you into trouble now or in the future.

Trolls suck. If you come upon a guest that is clearly trolling, report their post. Trolling is misuse of the SDN site in a fashion which interrupts forum activity and intentionally violates our site policies.

I guess your that person who wants everyone to sugar coat even the bad news so they feel better about themselves. If you can't handle the emotional stress, maybe you shouldn't be in the health profession field. If I'm a "jerk" because I give my honest opinion from experience and that are perfectly valid and actually based on some kind of proof or fact, then I'll be a jerk.

The guy with a sub 3.0 GPA and 17 DATs, I'm going to tell him his/her chance are close to none. If he has done a PostBacc/Masters and still have similar stats, I'd recommend choosing a new career path. That makes me a bad person? I guess it's better if I told them "Yes, you will do great! Just apply" and waste one if not more years of their lives. Mr. Avicii, I honestly don't know what your problem with me is, and honestly, I don't care. Just stop side-tracking the threads by making non-relevant posts like you did in this one.

yes your essays are getting annoying... go occupy wall st. lol im tired of your rambling.

Just out of curiosity, what would you guys do if you ended up in the same dental school next year?

I guess I'm spot on. The "Non-Trad" Post-Bacc applicant who only has a chance after doing a Post-Bacc, and likes sugar coating on everything just so his emotionally unstable self doesn't crack when people tell him he doesn't have a chance.

:poke: oops, I'm such a jerk!

luffy thats impossible, i found this guys stats, hes pretty bottom of the barrel. hes laughin at me meanwhile hes got really bad stats hahaha

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=828978

he wants to go to d-school with an 18 and a 3.1 sGPA wow! how much of a gangster is that! hahaha

no wonder he doesnt want to do predents profile, his stats are not worthy lol

Funny, how I can have those stats, and still have as many PreDec1 interview as you
That is also while I'm still in undergrad.
You finished undergrad, even had to do a PostBacc, and only on my level? Nice👍
If I'm not worthy, oh man I just wonder what you are.

PS: GPA is higher on AADSAS calculations by over a tenth of a point. Don't hate that you don't have reputable extracurricular, or in fact DO have a terrible personal statement that someone with unworthy stats can have just as many interviews as you 🤣
PPS: I guess a 3.5 in a "small school" that doesn't even make it into the top 150 US undergraduate colleges is tough stuff.

well where are your interviews? somehow i dont know if i have to believe you. you see like the type that lies. haha and i did a post-bacc because i didnt have science classes, im a non trad, how else would i take science classes? Stoooooooooooooooooopiddddddddddddddddddddd lol dude with your grades you should probably stop speaking lol. at least if you were smarter than me, i would have to give you some respect.

You don't have to believe me, I don't care. I also don't need your respect because like I said, your respect and knowing your stats isn't going to affect my chances of getting into DS. I could care less.
Ohhh, so underwater basket weaving and you only managed a 3.5? Funny, my Non-Science GPA is a 3.8  I guess because I have a higher GPA I'm "smarter" than you.

So for those that want it, here is Cedars info:

2 interviews: Western U and USC

AA - 18
PAT - 19
TS - 17

cGPA 3.28
sGPA 3.083
BCP 3.118

Take heed of this before listening to anymore advice from the "wise" Cedar.

anddd here it is again..

I'm not ripping on people who do PostBaccs or Master programs. Good for them if they have the motivation to do more schooling to achieve their goals of going to DS. I just don't like the people who can't take an honest opinion that isn't in their favor. Suddenly, that person giving their suggestion is a "jerk" and so "disrespectful" and whatever garbage.

Lol. I was never hiding my stats. I've told you multiple times through PM that if you were so intrigued by my stats, you can find them on a thread I made. Keep ripping on me buddy. I really don't mind. I think I'll be able to sleep just fine tonight:laugh:

'Nuff said, point made.

I'm done with posting on this thread that is unrelated to OP's original question.

Also, for the record, I never knew that Human Physiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Comparative Invertebrate Anatomy, Zoology Physiology just to name a few of the bio courses I've taken were easy. I guess most people take those, and receive 4.0s! But... MrAvicii wouldn't know, he's a non-trad underwater basket weaving major.

At least I didnt get an 18 on the DAT 🙂

You're way too hyperactive...

Thanks to MrAvicil and CedarZ4 for an entertaining thread lol. We need more threads like this.

Honestly, I find it hard to believe that CedarZ4 got interviews this early with OC 16, Bio 17 scores and low GPAs. I'm not buying it.

It's true, and they were in the first and second batches of interviews.
That's why I kept telling MrAvicii. My statistics won't make PreDents more accurate, if anything it will skew the data. I feel like I got my interview not from my statistics, but from my extracurricular, experience, and PS.
Those play a large role, too, not just stats.

For example, I know someone on SDN has similar stats (I believe 17science and 18AA too) but with 10 years military experience (if I recall correctly). He has like 10 interviews. It's not all about stats, but how you portray yourself and show you are well-rounded applicant. I think his name was TheRoni btw, but I could be wrong.

True, but according to PreDents, he indicated he took no biology courses prior to the DATs. So that either means that his sGPA may not actually be 4.0, or that 4.0 is from PostBacc even though he doesn't have a PostBacc labeled. Whatever the reason is, it would seem that his GPA is mislabeled on PreDents.
This would mean his 4.0GPA would only consist of non-science courses. AADSAS calculated my non-science GPA to be a 3.8 (as I have stated from above)
While I am just speculating and only he can tell us himself what his GPA for each category actually is, the point is, my 3.8non-science is comparable to his 4.0 if I'm correct.

I find this hard to believe too. Every competitive applicant has ECs, good LOEs, plenty of shadowing hours, research, nice PS, and yadda yadda yadda. Thus the difference comes down to GPA and DAT. Add to this that schools don't like to admit sub-par applicants since they have to report their stats to ADA which lowers their overall averages and gets published. Whether you're being truthful or not about landing those 2 interviews, you'll have your work cut out as you'll need to rock your interviews since you have weaker stats compared to the other interviewees.

That is just simply not true. 1,000 hours is more than 500 hours, but both are "plenty". Some people write better, and therefore have a better PS. Some people just so happens to have a unique trait that ADCOMS is looking for that others don't have, despite lower scores. The point is, just as GPA and DAT have a scale, so do ECs, LOEs, and PS etc. An 8 is good, but 9 is better. You may have a higher GPA and DAT, but your ECs are only an 8, which is good, but mine is a 9 which is better and compensates for the lower stats.

Also, don't believe me if you don't want to. Doesn't affect me. I already had the interviews, and if I were to lie, why would I not make up a higher number like 5...

bro its ok no ones cares. get a life already lol I watched a movie and had a phone conversation while you were here yakking. Again this would be fun if you had a 23AA, meanwhile you have a 16 in OC :wtf: good luck pulling your weight in d-school.

I wish this book would get made into a movie... maybe a romantic comedy 😍

So I am not the only one reading this romantic comedy. The climax is about to start as they get into a same school.

Your plea may be feasible IF every application got a thorough review. But the fact is there is limited manpower to thoroughly review the thousands of applications a school receives.

Let's break it down.... How long do you think it would take to thoroughly review a candidate's 3-4 LOEs, PS, transcripts, dental experience, ECs, community service, DAT score breakdown, etc? It would take at least 15-20 minutes. That's about 3 applications one person can review in an hour. Add to that the numerous emails, phone calls, bathroom breaks, lunch break and other time consuming things one needs to do, an Adcom can only review a dozen applications at most in a given day. And since most Adcoms consist of a handful of people, this equates to a few dozen apps per day.

Truth of the matter is schools sift thru these applications quickly to make two piles: the rejects and the ones to be thoroughly reviewed. They use GPA and DAT scores as the quick and efficient way to create these two piles. Thus, they wouldn't have been able to read the other parts of your application that you claim were the deal closers. Thus, I find it very hard to believe that your 17 TS and 16 OC scores would've made the cut to the review pile.

Btw, shadowing hours are overrated as many applicants have a parent's friend who's a dentist jack up fictitious shadowing hours for them. All schools know this and don't put much weight into this component of the app. They just want to make sure one has a minimum number of hours and knows about the profession that he/she is about to get into.

Not every application gets a thorough review, but I guess it just so happens mine did? I don't know what you want me to tell you, I'm not ADCOMS and neither are you. We are both just speculating, and I know my scores are not as competitive as others, yet I still got interviews in the first batches, so my reasoning was my ECs and PS. Maybe the schools that interviewed me really like the idea that I volunteered as a dental assistant in a developing third world country. Who knows.

I also disagree with the DAT/GPA "cutoff" so to speak. Different schools emphasize different things. Some schools like DAT (Columbia), other like high sGPA with a lot of Bio courses (Nova) while others are more community oriented (ASDOH)
People with well qualified stats don't get into ASDOH, but people with lower less competitive scores do. Do don't know what the ADCOMS are looking for, so everything we even say is useless.

Lastly, believe what you will, I got my interviews, and getting accepted is my first and only priority, not how other people on SDN forums look at me or doubt my "lies"

Lastly, believe what you will, I got my interviews, and getting accepted is my first and only priority, not how other people on SDN forums look at me or doubt my "lies"

a pompous jerk all the way to the end! i think predent and I were just saying, keep your nose down (dont be all high and mighty) and work hard. no need to be "king of the castle" when you have a 16 in OC. You're gonna need to work real hard in d-school and write nicer responses to your fellow predents on this site 🙂
