Just wondering if anyone knew how possible/common it was to get an acceptance withdrawn. I got into my first choice and am going to cancel other interviews and decline seats at other schools, but it would really suck to have my acceptance pulled for something (possibly like..."oh i'm sorry, we just noticed that your middle name starts with an s, and we don't accept that type of people, so sorry"). I'm probably being a little paranoid, but any input would be great. Thanks 👍

Insecure would probably be a better word for it. Relax, unless you lied about something on your application, I doubt any school would pull your acceptance.

Kind of a question concerning this thread and another recent one: Is it just Osteo. schools that accept more applicants than there are spots? I thought both allo. and osteo. did this. What happens if when classes start, they still have 162 scheduled to come and 150 spots--are applicants suddenly informed they aren't going or do they make room?

i think they accept the exact number asap and waitlist everyone else. then when people start cancelling their acceptances, they pull people from the waitlist

Most schools overaccept, but it generally works out. If it doesn't, they're still contractually obligated to accommodate you, so they might just have to expand their class (this has happened in the past). Also, they might offer students incentives for matriculating in the next class -- for example, KCUMB offered students in the class of 2009 a full tuition scholarship if they postponed their enrollment by one year because the class was overbooked.

exlawgrrl answered it very well 🙂

I know nothing of osteo, but most allo school accept about 1.5 to 2 times the number of seats, based on historic acceptance rates. And they have waitlists in case this is an underestimate.

Most DO and MD schools do this, but there are exceptions. I know for example that UMass accepts 100 students and the 101st student is waitlisted.

State schools lots of times don't overaccept. My school doesn't overaccept, and the state school in the last state I lived in didn't either. Both rely heavily on the waitlist for filling their class.
