So I was under the impression that the earliest you could get an acceptance was Dec. 1st (or this year Dec. 3rd I believe since the 1st is on a weekend.) Anyways, I was just talking to a dentist that graduated from dental school in 2007, and he said if they really like you, schools will give you a call a week or two after you interview with an offer. Is this true? Maybe it used to be true, but changed in the 10 years or so since this dentist has applied to dental school? Anyone who got accepted last cycle know if acceptances were ever given out this way?

Also, if this is wrong, and acceptances aren't given until Dec. 3rd at the earliest, how are applicants usually notified? Is it an email, on AADSAS, or do you get a phone call? Or does it vary? Thanks in advance for answers!

usually a phone call. then email as well just in case they cannot reach you via phone. Either way you will receive a voicemail if you cannot pick up and an email as well.

I've never heard of an official offer being made before Dec 1st (3rd). I don't know when the Traffic Rules came into existence though. But that's what they (schools) all supposedly agree to now.

"Earliest Notification Date. Notify applicants, either orally or in writing, of provisional or final acceptance no earlier than December 1 of the academic year prior to the academic year of matriculation."

I have heard of people getting a little wink-wink sort of thing. But that's never certain or official. That might just be a good way to get some clown asking a million questions to get up and leave the interview room. Best I got was, "I think we can accommodate you" after expressing final interest in the program at the end of my interview (in early October). Maybe I was that clown and he wanted me out of there. But I didn't count on it until Dec 1 when it was official.

No dental school is allowed to give notices of acceptance before Dec. 1st. This year, it's the 3rd. Most notifications are either by AADSAS, phone, or letter. I think a few do email.

sometimes they give you a " Hint" lol.. like the interviewer will say " I will Highly RECommend you for acceptance"

I don't think that's true. I don't know where I heard this, but I think all dental schools sign an agreement with ADEA stating that the earliest they can inform a student he/she is accepted is dec. 1st. Thus, informing them anytime earlier is "illegal".

I was interviewing at a school last week and was talking to one of the applicants. I asked him how many schools he applied to and he said 1. He said that this school accepts 2 residents of that state every year who automatically get in because they are from a rural area and plan to practice there in the future. Anyways, he is already accepted the interview and the official acceptance are merely formalities. This is an example of being accepted before December.

If that's the logic, then all of the applicants receiving official acceptances in December, have been accepted before the magic month.

You failed to understand that the applicant I spoke of knew he was accepted.

And you failed to understand that unless he had a letter in his hand, there was no official acceptance.

The only thing I failed to do was bold any of your previous comments...and ignore you in the first place 😀. Sure they weren't officially accepted...the school knew it, the applicant knew it, but you're right it isn't official.

Funny because two of the student ambassadors at the school were also accepted in the same manner. That is 2/100 students each year so obviously not many opportunities for preacceptance...and this was one school out of many. Take it as a grain of salt, but it's real salt
