Is it common for a lot of people to get off waitlist in July? I know it happens but I am curious as to how normal it is.

I know it depends on the school, so let me pick Tufts for example.

It seems as if a lot of waitlists aren't moving yet, and I am optimisitically believing that all schools eventually take at least some people off. I'm waitlisted at two schools, neither of which have taken anyone off yet. fun, isn't it!?!

It seems like everyones getting good news except me..... and you guys

Not this year..compared to the previous years, it seems that schools arent having any movement at all. From my first-choice school, I am hearing that there hasnt been any movement in the last two weeks. How ridiculous is that?

What schools are you guys waiting on? Just out of curiosity!! 🙂 Good luck!! :luck:

I;m waitlisted at UChicago (Pritzker SOM) and Drexel. I'm a PA resident. No acceptances yet....

I'm waiting on Dartmouth, Upstate, and Downstate. No acceptance yet.

At least you all have the month of July to watch and pray. I am waitlisted at Morehouse and Meharry which both start the first week of July. How's that for harsh??

Waitlisted at WashU and UPenn.........ugggggggggggggh

Jeff, Stony Brook, and UB... soo frustrated! i feel your pain guys, believe me! 😡

I haven't actually gone through the whole application process yet, but I do know one girl with whom I worked last year got accepted off a waitlist literally right before classes started (in August)...she had to quickly find an apartment, etc, etc...it was intense, but obviously, she was thrilled to have gotten an acceptance.

To those of you who are only sitting on waitlists are you making alternate plans for next year yet? I'm waiting on SLU and Tulane. I still have faith that I'll get into one of those schools but I've also already started my job hunt and worked on my 05 AMCAS. Man I really wish I had spent another thousand dollars or so last year and applied to more schools 🙁

Amen to that. I think it varies from school to school a lot. There was one guy in my class who wasn't at orientation. Why? He got accepted the day before classes started. He had a friend in town, and had to stay with him for a few days till he got an apartment.

In some cases, the super last minute call ups may favor the folks in wait list hell. Imagine you got a call like I described... if you had already settled into a different school, you'd REALLY have to want to make a last minute change. But if it was your only shot at med school, you'd jump at it in half a minute. On the assumption that a student high on one list may be high on other lists, or accepted (often not a safe one, I grant), they may well have to reach further down the list.
