Here is my story followed by a question, stay tuned. I was recently accepted to an Osteopathic medical school following four MCATs and a crappy GPA. (Highest MCAT 24, GPA 3.2). Working two jobs while undergrad, not putting as much time into the process as should be. I am really not an idiot, although I know some out there will disagree, 3.7 GPA in my Radiology degree, which counted for squat through AMCAS and ACOMAS. The question is this, after so many years of re-applying and having some doors slammed in my face, why am I not happy with my acceptance. I know with the plethora of students taking the MCAT every year there has to be someone who is in the same boat as me. I don't think it is because it is a DO school because I knew what DO was before I applied to the program, and the school is super cool with many opportunities to make a difference in the structure of program. I do have a great urge to stay in this state, Nebraska, but no DO schools in Nebraska and less than 200 practicing DO physicians. Has there been any one accepted to a medical school with more than four MCATS if so MD/DO/FMS.

As long as you're sure you want to be a doctor, just be glad you finally got an acceptance. There are many students who have had to repeat the MCAT and reapply many times before a school finally accepted them. And when you finally matriculate into med school, forget about the MCAT. Just focus on doing well in your classes.

I don't know what your question is. Do you want to know if you should reapply after taking the MCAT a fourth time? I don't think that's a good idea. At this point, you've made all of the improvement in your score you could.

If you have an acceptance, then congratulations to you. Just run with it and never look back.

I agree w/RxnMan. Having taken the MCAT 4x myself, and finally having 3 acceptances this year, I feel glad to put that thing well behind me and run with what I have. While I'm not selecting from my top 3, 5 or even 10 choices of schools, it will work okay. (To answer the OP, 2 of these are DO, 1 of them is MD.)

I have a friend that finally got in this year on his 4th application cycle. All DO schools, for whatever reason MD schools have left him high & dry. His MCAT has always been around 30, and his GPA is like 3.8. So - moral of the story is, people with 'better stats' than your application have had to bust their butts to get into DO schools. They want to be physicians, they are happy to have that chance. Think about it. Congratulations!

I understand where you are coming from Jose- I have similar stats and was accepted to a DO school. I opted to reject the offer (after actually visiting it, I realized it wasn't for me), but that's because I've only taken the MCAT once, and I know I can afford to retake it and apply again to other schools that I would rather go to.
I don't think many people get in with more than 4 MCATS- I suggest you ask the advisor/ admissions officer of the Nebraska school you would like to go to. But just so you know, I think that if you really want to practice in Nebraska, you can do so regardless of DO or MD. I would also suggest calling some FMS and asking them about the more than 4 MCAT scores; I do think they have a better possibility of accepting that. ( But I would way the pros and cons of doing an FMS over a DO or MD before going that route).

Believe me when I tell you, I hear you and I understand where you are coming from. I am in all sense of the word, a beggar and by the looks of my GPA and MCAT, should not be a chooser. I probably should not even have been chosen when compared to some of the superstars who had gotten rejected with masters and PHD's and astronomical MCATs, but I did get chosen and I just want to know if anybody out there gave up a spot for re-taking the MCAT or bumping up their GPA to attempt another shot at a school that was either closer to family or significant other. I am not too keen on trying to transfer out because I truly feel that would have been a spot wasted, someone who really liked the school and had no problems moving could have really enjoyed it, but someone like me who happened to have his lucky pet rock in his blazer pocket when interviewing got it. like I said earlier, I am not an idiot, I just want to learn from other's mistakes.
