Hi, I need an advise please. I was wondering if in case I am accepted to Dental school, would I be able to skip a year and start the following year. Would I need to reply and go over the interview process again, and the school that accepted me at first may reject me. Please, anyone had or heard of such an experience. I'm planning to apply this cycle, but all depends on my family situation and I really would like to know where I might end up with all this. Thank you!!!

Some schools would approve a deferment in your acceptance but that's on extremely rare cases. If it's a matter of life of death with your family, most likely they'll allow you to start the following year. It's kind of hard to say a clear cut answer, but if you know already that you'll have to defer they probably won't do it because they would tell you that you shouldn't have applied knowing beforehand that you can't attend till the following year.

Medical schools often allow applicants to defer matriculation. But dental schools do not usually allow applicants to do it.

The only sure fire way to know is to call the schools and ask.

But dont get your hopes up.

You will likely need to speak to the dean of the program that accepted to you and explain your circumstances. Deferment is not common in dental school as far as I know. I can't comment if family situation is special enough of a circumstance for schools to approve you for deferment. I have only heard of one dental student dropped out of school for one year because of financial reason; and that person was already a D2. Other than that, I have only heard of people defer due to medical reasons (ofc it varies from school to school).

Even if the school don't approve of your deferment, I doubt that they would automatically reject you if you reapply. But I think you would have to work extra hard to convince them that you are ready for dental school, and this time you aren't just saying it.
