Been reading SDN for a long time and now I need your Help

I am going to graduate this year and was accepted into a couple different DO classes of 2016. However this semester I slacked off big time and am going to get a gpa of about 2.5 I am not going to receive any Ds or Fs but I will get a couple of Cs 😡. I can only blame this on laziness. My Cs are in upper level science classes but they are not prereqs.

My question is regarding the stability of my acceptance. Is it contingent on getting a certain GPA? Will I still get to go to Med school or can they take my acceptance away:scared:

Look at your acceptance letter. Chances are it says satisfactory completion of current courses etc. you're fine as a C is satisfactory. I would encourage you to contact the schools for confirmation. But if it's not listed in your acceptance letter you should be fine.

I was about to post something very similar. I was accepted this cycle too, and I just completely screwed up a scan-tron exam by misbubbling an entire page's worth of questions. This now puts me in the D range in this class. I will literally be 0.23 points from a C, and the prof said he's not likely to bump up my grade. I'm a little worried since my acceptance letter states in the list of matriculation requirements that students need to maintain at least C's in all courses during this spring semester.

You guys should both contact your schools and see what they say. Generally as long as you pass any required class, and don't dip below their GPA minimum then you're good to go. Still I'd try and get it straight from the source.

That's rough, try and ask him if there is any way to get to that C and if he won't budge then start working the ladder.

I bet you could sweet talk the instructor into bumping it up to a C based on the fact that you're going to medical school. I highly doubt any teacher would have enough malice to keep one of their students from entering into a dream profession for 0.23 points. Just plead with him and really lay out your case.

Dude, this is what the dept chair and dean is for.......fight till the death....but plead with your prof first before going over his head.

Yes, because all professors should award high grades based on who really, really wants it rather than on the student's performance 🙄.

OP: Sometimes professors will allow a student to complete an extra-credit project to boost their grade up to the next level. No harm in seeing if this is an option.

considering the circumstances....yes he should get a C-, being only 0.23 points away and it riding his medical school acceptance

If you don't get into medical school over .23 points in a class I will literally organize a protest on your behalf. That is just absolutely freaking ridiculous.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Just an update: I spoke with two good friends of mine who are students that already attend this med school. Both of them are quite familiar with the admissions office and how things work there, and they both told me that a D was highly unlikely to affect my acceptance. I'm still waiting to hear whether the prof will bump my grade, but I'm not holding my breath.

Well go talk to that prof also, no need for the D if you can put in a little work.

Talk to them, plead your case... it can't hurt to try... they do it all the time, I promise... I was given a B once because the instructor liked me and no one above me in points deserved a C... No, I'm not kidding... JUST DO IT!

I just finished talking to him. He said his cutoffs were 70/80/90, and he couldn't change it for just one person.

Frankly, I'm not worried about it as far as my gpa goes. I could care less about that personally. My main concern was whether or not it would affect my acceptance. It sounds like it's not going to be too big of a deal, so I'm ok with it.

Meh... that still seems a bit petty.

Those cutoffs are set for a reason. They shouldn't be flexible, imo. I don't care if you miss the cutoff by 1 point or 73 points, you still missed it. Clearly the OP has the intelligence to pass the class if he got accepted into med school, so it was just plain laziness that got him a D.

Very glad for OP this won't affect his acceptance.

so it was just plain laziness that got him a D.

Not laziness, misbubbling. If you read my original post, you'll see that I would have had a C if I had bubbled the scantron correctly. But yes, it was plain laziness that got me a C. 😀

And what most-holy-reason are they set for? There still is some aspect of humanity to the relationship between professors and students, shoot you're paying for it. And if you were actually reading what the OP (which is not really the OP but LateInTheGame) was saying was that he/she missed questions on a test and it significantly dropped his grade... lazieness?? Sure he/she could've done better before that test to ensure that even if he bombed it he would've been fine, but then again who anticipates bombing a test... Thanks for insight though. We don't know the whole story that LateInTheGame is going through but no need to call them lazy.

You told the professor that you were already accepted to medical school and that you misbubbled the test and that you just need a C- to keep your acceptance and he STILL didn't bump you up 0.23 points?

What a hard-ass. It's not like you're asking for an A

P.S. just because two students told you that it probably wouldn't matter doesn't mean that you should be taking this lightly. Your acceptance letter says you need to stay in passing range for all your classes and I would take that much more seriously than word of mouth. If last resort, speak with the admissions counselor directly.

your situation sucks lateinthegame and to a much lesser extent franco. i hope things work out for you guys:xf:

👍 Best bet

Technically speaking a D is considered passing by the letter system
A excellent
B above average
C average
D passing
F failed

I think it varies state by state but at my university you could technically still graduate even if you got D's in your last classes.
