Hey all, I just got word from my dad that I was accepted to a certain dental school that will remain nameless. He is a dentist and went to the school, that is why they told him early.

I have an interview set up on Thursday up at Buffalo, and am trying to decide whether or not to go still. The school I got into was one of my top choices and much more geographically appealing to me than Buffalo.

Do you guys think I should:

a.) Stick to my previous plan and go to Buffalo so that I can tryo to get into as many schools as possible and then decide.

b.) Delay the Buffalo interview until January or something because there is almost no way I would go to Buffalo over the school I got into unless Buffalo is spectacular.

Any help would be appreciated

if you don't really want to go to buffalo then withdraw your app... or at least delay the interview. you shouldn't pursue a school you're not going to attend. just think of the rest of us who really want in at buffalo.

Edit: congrats on the acceptance by the way, that must be a sweet relief.

First Congrats on your acceptance, whether you really earned it or not. Two I am in your shoe some how, well I interviewed at my top choices and rescheduled 4 interviews until after Dec, but I kinda am regreting it right now. Simply because I would have heard from 6 schools instead of just 2, not to forget that I ruined my chances at the other schools, one of which is Buffalo, which I was scheduled for last month. So I would suggest you go, since unlike me you can afford it and that was my excuse afterall.

Congrats again

Oh and btw, it is obvious it was UConn. but know that it is way harder than buffalo.

Don't interview at other schools, you got accepted to the school you want...and since your dad is alumni, you're a "legacy".

If it's UConn, you're crazy if it is your "dream school." I mean, some dreams are bad dreams. That place has changed a lot since your dad's days. Have you read the threads from many years ago and from recently about ppl slammin UConn?

Not UConn 😉. The thing is, I like the school and may end up there, but I certainly am not committed to it 100%. I am still really into some others, like UConn, Stony Brook, and Tufts, all of which I have interviewed at.

PS - I got 8 interviews thus so I think I earned the acceptance, my dad really had no pull at the school.

Your not going to end up going to buffalo, so I would withdraw your application their and let someone else have a chance.

You need to do some soul searching and finally decide to do what looks reasonable. Nobody can decide for you. I have a feeling that you already know what to do. AND CONGRADULATIONS.👍

uhmm...wish my dad is a dentist and went to all of the schools that i applied 😀

~you already got accepted, why waste more money unless it's your top choice.

I think it's totally ridiculous that you are posting your acceptance. At least have the courtesy to your fellow soon-to-be colleagues to withold your bragging until after December 1st. I'd be safe to say your professionalism certainly didn't earn you that interview.

Give me a break.

I really don't care what you think. I had a question which I think was reasonable. There was no bragging involved at all. Hopefully you will never be my collegue.

LOL...man that was harsh! I guess the stress of waiting does built up.
Let him celebrate, he can't contain it.

Would you go to other schools if you got accepted? If not, why waste your time and effort trying to get in? Saying that you go into a bunch of schools is not worth the $400/interview pricetag.

I would go to the interview because you never know if you might fall in love with Buffalo....... dont regret not giving buffalo a chance!!!!

I know, but I am not sure I want to go to this school. It is just high on my list.

At first, I didn't want to even interview at Buffalo because it is so far and I had no interest. But my parents wanted me to, so I booked it and all.

Now, my parents want me not to go because it is a ton of time and money, but I have heard such great things about Buffalo I am sort of interested in seeing it.

Sounds like your task is to prioritize. Consider the cost of attendence of each school and everything else. Then, decide definatively whether you would go to each school if accepted. Rank each in order, and interview at those schools that you WOULD rather go to.

If you know ahead of time that you won't go, then there's no reason to interview. Save $400. There's no reason to let indecision cost you $400/school. Spend it on something else. 🙂 But there's nothing wrong with going to a school just to see if you'd like it. You COULD find something you love about it. Balance everything out.

dont go to buffalo.. you wont end up at buffalo if you're already accepted at one of your top Choice.. Buffalo definitely wont win you over in terms of location.. save the time and effort and open up that spot to someone who would really want to go there...

I can tell you right now to give Buffalo a chance. It has a very solid reputation and who knows, maybe it will be the school that you feel most at home at even though it is geographically far from home. You will never know unless you check it out. Plus, you really need to see as many schools as possible to make sure you know what each has to offer and make the best overall decision. Let me ask you this.... In the long run, is one day and a couple hundred bucks going to make a huge difference?? Give it a chance, you never know what could happen. Also, no acceptance is valid unless recieved in writing from the school. Not to say you aren't accepted, but wait until it's a legit acceptance before counting your chickens.
Good luck, and it's my guess you will be surprised by Buffalo.

your dad is a dentist. he can afford to send you to another interview. pocket change

so bitter. let him celebrate.

OP, i really think you should withdraw your apps if you want to go to the school your dad went to. it gives others a chance to be less anxious sooner. congrats man. i'm sitting here crappin bricks.

uhhh.... skip the buffalo interview, relax for the weekend, and buy yourself and your lady a nice $400 dinner

Agreed, as long as you're not in your face about it.. congrats! It's always a good thing to get into your top school.

Congrats Z! What a huge relief, huh? I can't wait until Friday... the wait is really wearing me down.

Everyone here has given good advice (except the a$$ who berated you for this thread -- ignorance is so 19th century people) and I would have to agree with those saying that you need to think about it for yourself. Sit back and imagine that at this point you are accepted to both buffalo and this "mystery school" your dad went to. Would you choose buffalo? If not then you know the answer. If you're not SURE, then you want to see buffalo before making a decision in which case I would strongly advise going out there and checking it out. You're from Maine so snow isn't going to be new and I have a lot of friends who love the school/area.

Also, I would be at least a little nervous not having a letter of acceptance in my hand. I'm sure you're in, but you can never be certain with these third party notifications. Don't jump the gun.

b.) Delay the Buffalo interview until January or something because there is almost no way I would go to Buffalo over the school I got into unless Buffalo is spectacular.

Honestly, why bother? It sounds like in your heart you have already decided where you want to attend. Why waste the money and time going somewhere you know you will not be attending?

I could understand if your plane tickets were non-refundable, you were visiting somewhere fun (LV, LA, NYC, FL) but this is Buffalo. I'd save yourself the time and money.

Buffalo completely screwed last years senior class out of an awards ceremony and threatened to NOT let the entire class graduate because a few students used old board exams to study for their upcoming exams. So because a few students used old exams to study (which is completely legal- other dental schools give the old exams to their students to study from) they punished the ENTIRE class. Not the kind of school or administration I would be interested in.

Loosen up bholden, I hope you weren't that uptight during YOUR interviews.

I am in the airport going to Buffalo. I thought it is good to keep my options open and see/try for every school I can.

Until you have an acceptance letter in your hand, or have received an email, or a phone call, then you aren't in--no matter what you've heard through the grapevine. Somebody talking to your Dad who then talks to you does not qualify as an acceptance. It qualifies as a rumor.

You'd be foolish not to continue interviewing, until you get an official acceptance, assuming that is the school you want to attend.

👍

I'd keep interviewing...you never know what school that was low on your list may impress you and become high on your list.
