Hi guys,
I got offered spots in RVC and Glasgow this year and I am stoked. After the excitemet faded, I realized a lot had to be done, most importantly I had to make sure I could afford the move. My wife will be coming with me to hopefully provide some income. In addition, my parents have not paid a cent into my college education and I doubt they are going to start now, I have done it ALL on my own. I am curious if anyone has suggestions for a student already in debt and dealing with it and making the proper arrangements so that I can actually go to school and complete my goal. I made it this far, and I don't want to give up now. Hoping to hear from anyone with similar experiances or who has done it before, or even for some kind words of encouragement. Any resources, suggestions, etc are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

I think your best bet might be to contact the schools and see if they can put you in contact with current international students who have been through the process of moving abroad already.

Since they've recently been through it they will be a great resource for you. Also they may be able to put you into contact with other students who brought spouses with them and walk you through the whole 'getting a visa' process.

Good luck! I love london so I'm super jealous of you guys getting into/going to RVC (plus I know one of the faculty members there and he is just THE. BEST. EVER). I wish I could have applied but London didn't hold many good prospects for my fiance so...*sigh* I just had to stay stateside. 🙂

Hi,
I moved to the UK several years ago...not for vet school but because my husband is English. I went through the whole visa and moving thing and then moved back again to the states for me to go to vet school here.
If you have questions on visa/moving companies etc. you can send me a message and i'll try to help. I also know a couple of students at the RVC so I could put you in touch with them if you'd like. Oh and, check out http://www.uk-yankee.com/ it helped us a lot with the whole process.

Thank you for the replies thus far, they are helpful 🙂

Have you considered applying the next cycle for your in-state school? If it is just money, I would research everything you can regarding cost of living, work permit for your wife, visa, etc. I saw that the 2009 tuition was $36K, that is less than some US out of state schools, but cost of living might be high. Don't give up!!!! YOU are practically there already! Go out of country or apply again to in-state next year. As long as your GRE scores are up to date, why not? 🙂 You win either way! Congrats.
