Accepted to CCOM, do I need to go to NYCOM interview?

My main issue with CCOM is cost. Other than that I liked it a lot. Does anyone really know how expensive it is to attend NYCOM (with housing, etc)? And are the schools pretty comparable otherwise? Both seem to have good reputations and match lists. I really don't plan on practicing in NYC, so I'm thinking I should just let it go.

Or I'm just being lazy.

Sounds like you already prefer CCOM so unless you have your heart set on NYCOM I don't see why you would even bother. Are you a resident of IL?

No. I live in Upstate NY right now. I went to school at Michigan though. I'm still waiting on PCOM which would be my #1, but I'm trying to decide if it's worth going to the NYCOM interview. I think LI is too much for me to deal with if I don't have to.

Other than that I didn't submit any other secondaries...NYCOM just invited me without even getting any letters from me.

I was just checking if anyone had compelling information that might cause me to reconsider. Like NYCOM is unbelievably awesome, or something to that effect.

why sell yourself short? you have an interview... why not just go and see if you truly like it or not. options are never a bad thing. not like you have to study for it or anything just show up.

I agree especially since it sounds like you live fairly close so travel expenses wouldn't be all that bad. Check it out! there's no pressure now, you're already in!!

Yeah...I know it wouldn't be a big deal to go. It's just more money and time off work. And driving.

Actually, does anyone know how long they typically take to get back to you? If I wouldn't find out before Dec. 15th there's absolutely no point in going, because I'll have to put a deposit down on CCOM or PCOM, and once I do that I'm not thinking about this again. NYCOM really took their time on this...I was in SUPER early.

What does this mean exactly... Something against long islanders? Afraid that I'm going to run over you with my yacht that I was forced to take out to the hamptons since my helicopter is in the repair shop?

I can't imagine overall expenses for CCOM is as much as NYCOM. Isn't NYCOM is super expensive? BTW, what are your stats?

For the class of 2012, it's $72,000 including living expenses . For the class of 2013, the financial aid lady said the estimate is not out yet but it's projected to be higher :scared:. I'd stick with CCOM if you have no interest in NYC.

I too have an upcoming interview at NYCOM but Touro-NY already gave me an acceptance and it costs only $62,000/year for everything.I'm a NY resident and I'm looking to see if NYCOM has some scholarships that would help with the tuition cost. Else I'm signing up with Touro-NY.Touro-NY doesn't have any scholarships yet (maybe military) until it's inaugural class graduates.

Thanks for the input.

My stats aren't amazing. 3.4 GPA (CMB at Michigan), 32S MCAT. Lots of research experience. I applied very early to few places, because I'm limited by my fiance's job, and also, I didn't want to spend several grand on this process. I guess I kind of knew what I wanted and focused on those schools. If I didn't get in I was willing to take some more classes and apply again.

I have nothing against LI...I just don't think I can afford it. And I'm not familiar with the city so it seems like it might be more effort for me to manage rotations 3rd and 4th year.

You're being humble. Your stats is great.😉 Go where you feel comfortable.
Not really into LI either. I doubt I'll move there if I do decide to attend NYCOM.
