Accepted to top choice, can I quit my job?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Looking back at my AMCAS, I DID put down that I was going to remain at the job until 8/2019. This doesn't really make sense because presumably I will be moving out of town to start school before August, but I am still worried.

Would it be totally out of bounds to email the admissions staff and just ask if it will be an issue if I leave my current job in a few weeks?

No don’t ask the school. Give your boss 2-3 weeks notice and emphasize that you need to make money for med school now that you realize how expensive it will be to move.

If you aren't under contract, you could just as easily be let go with a few weeks notice. Either way, you did not write "through 8/2019" meaning to deceive. The job is not paying enough given the expenses you foresee and you are leaving on good terms (not fired) and seeking a higher paying job. No need to inform the school that has accepted you. Just give notice to your lab boss noting that you would have stayed but the need to earn more in anticipation of expenses in the new year really has your back to the wall.

Hi guys, I am very fortunate to have been accepted at my top pick MD school so early in the cycle. I am super excited to start school in the fall.

I currently work as a technician in an academic lab, I have worked there for about two years. I really dislike it, I am overworked and the pay isn't good, but the job did probably help me get accepted in many ways. At this point, I am accepted and have no real incentive to remain in the position. I am hoping to leave around the new year. My question is this: is there any way that leaving my current research job will impact my acceptance or look bad (i.e. does this show lack of commitment)? My boss is the tiniest bit petty and I fear that if I leave him, he will call up the school and complain about me or something, and they will rescind my acceptance. He is actually a clinical professor at the school, albeit not a tenured, powerful, or at all involved-in-admissions, and its a massive school. Am I being totally paranoid? I have heard that once you are accepted, you just need to keep out of legal trouble and you're good--is this true?

Basically, can I justifiably quit my crappy job in a few weeks without it impacting my acceptance? I would be more than happy to go work as a waiter and save some actual $$ for the next couple months before school begins.
Dump this job as soon as you can find a different one.

If you can afford dumping now, and not working, then dump it now. But work skills are always helpful

thanks all for the reassurance! I'll be out and living my best life after the holidays!

This thread is my current life crisis, lol. I told my PI that I'd be here for two years...but Western Blots just seem like such a hassle all of a sudden...

Edit: Let's be real. I'm broke and I need money.

Edit2: But definitely try to find some other form of income before quitting this one. Being unemployed CAN be fun. Being broke is never fun.
