No don’t ask the school. Give your boss 2-3 weeks notice and emphasize that you need to make money for med school now that you realize how expensive it will be to move.Looking back at my AMCAS, I DID put down that I was going to remain at the job until 8/2019. This doesn't really make sense because presumably I will be moving out of town to start school before August, but I am still worried.
Would it be totally out of bounds to email the admissions staff and just ask if it will be an issue if I leave my current job in a few weeks?
Dump this job as soon as you can find a different one.Hi guys, I am very fortunate to have been accepted at my top pick MD school so early in the cycle. I am super excited to start school in the fall.
I currently work as a technician in an academic lab, I have worked there for about two years. I really dislike it, I am overworked and the pay isn't good, but the job did probably help me get accepted in many ways. At this point, I am accepted and have no real incentive to remain in the position. I am hoping to leave around the new year. My question is this: is there any way that leaving my current research job will impact my acceptance or look bad (i.e. does this show lack of commitment)? My boss is the tiniest bit petty and I fear that if I leave him, he will call up the school and complain about me or something, and they will rescind my acceptance. He is actually a clinical professor at the school, albeit not a tenured, powerful, or at all involved-in-admissions, and its a massive school. Am I being totally paranoid? I have heard that once you are accepted, you just need to keep out of legal trouble and you're good--is this true?
Basically, can I justifiably quit my crappy job in a few weeks without it impacting my acceptance? I would be more than happy to go work as a waiter and save some actual $$ for the next couple months before school begins.
yeah I've done enough ****** western blots for the rest of my life!!! **** that!!!This thread is my current life crisis, lol. I told my PI that I'd be here for two years...but Western Blots just seem like such a hassle all of a sudden...
Edit: Let's be real. I'm broke and I need money.
Edit2: But definitely try to find some other form of income before quitting this one. Being unemployed CAN be fun. Being broke is never fun.
