So, I was recently accepted to the U-Cinn MS program, Class 2010.

I am trying to plan ahead for the next application cycle. As I understand, some students submit their MD application as they enter the program, and send updates about their status during the year.

Is this the recommended course of action? I had planned on waiting until I had fully graduated the program to apply again, as the application process is just so damn expensive and would rather do it only once more if I can avoid it.

Thanks~

The students who submit their application as they enter the program are usually already competitive for medical school (i.e. 3.5+ gpa and 30+ MCAT). Thus, all they need to show the medical school admission committees is one semester of good grades in the SMP to have a good chance. Most students, however, need a full year of grades to make up, for example a 3.0 gpa and a 30 mcat. Thus it all depends on which category you fit in. I say 30 MCAT because most SMP students have an MCAT around there. Hope this helps.

Congrats on your acceptance! I agree with the previous poster. I graduated from the Cincy SMP in 2008 and waited until I finished the program before applying because my GPA was on the lower side and was not competitive for med school. The people who applied during the program were generally much more competitive already. It all depends on your stats and your own situation. Think of it this way: Assuming you're a reapplicant, if you apply to med school again while in the program, you will be sending in AMCAS with the EXACT same stats that you did the first time...if they weren't too successful then (few or no interviews), why would it be any different now? If on the other hand, you had several interviews and maybe a waitlist or two that first time you applied, then it might not be a bad idea to re-apply now and then update the schools with your exam scores (which the SMP director Dr. Banks will do for you in update letters). PM me for any more questions about the Cincy SMP.

Thanks for the advice. It was exactly what I figured. The way I see it, I don't think it would have been effective to re-submit until I had finished the program. I am between a 3.0 and 3.5 GPA so I believe I will wait to apply until I am finished with it. Also, I have been busy this year enhancing my resume, so I do have some other credentials to add.

Expect a PM from me. I have a couple Q's about the program.

Thanks~
