i have been searching up some of the people on MDapplicants.com but am kinda tired of seeing the same profiles over and over.
i know some people in this forum have applied with a less than stellar MCAT and received acceptances. I am just wondering who you guys are and maybe a little bit about your application that you think made you stand out from the rest.

I thought the average score for osteopathic students is 21-24.

Oglesby, your profile ****ing rules. The only thing that is even slightly weak about it is the MCAT. If you don't get in this year, it will be because you applied late.

If you don't get in, you should still take it again, but what you have now is likely good enough to at least get you in somewhere.

according to the AACOMAS website it is approx. 25
each school varies though, some have averages of 28, others average 24.
but it seems by the 2005 data that "straight 8's" yields magic #24.
i scored a 22(R), not very proud of it and my DO keeps asking me when im going to retake the MCAT. needless to say, its embarrassing to bring up in conversation.

edit: TT, i want your MCAT testing abilities! i'd glady trade you 0.5 GPA pts for 3 pts off your MCAT.

but i handed him a packet just today with all of my information (curriculum vitae, essays on 'why osteopathic medicine,' and a copy of my official AACOMAS GPA calculations) so I am hoping he can see beyond my horrific MCAT and write me a decent letter now.
but yeah, i know a large part of my possible and complete rejection from all 15 schools i have sent out secondaries to would be because of my tardiness in the cycle.

You have a great GPA from a good school, your MCAT is not disastrous, what's hurting you most is you entered late in the race, I would think. I am assuming you haven't had an interview yet?

Yeah, I think that would be a no from UCSF 🙁 I work there and I'm pretty familiar with the post bac program, so PM me if you have any questions.

MMO didn't apply to UCSF, so I would expect UCSF accesses MCAT scores and applicant data the same way the military does, for use in promoting its programs.

Hey Matt.... I thought I'd chip in here for ya. I had a 24 MCAT and got 14 interviews including 1 MD. After a screw around freshman year AND after I made the decison to enter medicine I have only got 1 B. So my GPA looks pretty stellar on the upward trend scheme. However, I attribute my interview/acceptance success that my LORs were VERY strong and that I applied as early as humanly possible. I advise you to do the same next cycle IF the waiting game doesnt provide some positive results for you.

I got a lot of letters for post-bacc programs... Temple, Drexel, etc... Don't do it if you're glad to be going DO 🙂 You'll get in be patient...

If you don't, it's no biggie you can just reapply next year... maybe take the mcat again in the meantime?

All in all, I'm just happy that I'm going to be a doctor. Best of luck to all those that didn't have the greatest MCAT scores!

Matt, I feel your pain. I too was in the same position last year. I applied too late and ended up getting screwed in the end. My advice for you is to NOT take the MCAT more than three times and even more than two times I would not take it. I would work on volunteering and perhaps take a tough science class if you are already graduated. I've gotten multiple interviews and I can tell you that if you get an interview at some places it's all down hill from there. There are some schools that are forgiving when it comes to one aspect of your application VCOM promotes this a great deal but I have come to doubt them on this. There are many quality schools that will look at your application. DONT GIVE UP! there were many times where I tried to justify giving up but something deep inside me said to keep going. I believe you will get in. My other piece of advice is to apply on the 1st or 2nd day the application is open and be a complete pest to admissions dept. This will help you get your foot in the door at many places. Finally, a post bacc. program is not just for people with lower GPA's it's an opportunity to show that although you have a lower MCAT you can handle a rigorous schedule. a 24 is vastly different than a 22 even though it's only a couple of points. But it's the fact that some schools (either stated or not) have cut offs of 23. ****ty, yeah, but it's similar to the magic 3.0 mark. RETAKE the MCAT, you'll have the pick of the litter if you do so.

You will start medical school this fall, I promise you. You're EC's define your character, something DO schools look at quite seriously.

At your interview, talk about prevention and you'll be golden.

My MCAT wasnt really that high. My GPA was pretty high but I got plenty of interviews. For many schools, the interview is where you can make or break yourself.
