did any of you got accepted with MCAT 25 and lower? If yes, which school and what are your stats. Thanks

yea one of my best friends did. 25 mcat, 3.3 gpa accepted weill cornell medical college (nyc) last year. she went to cornell undergrad w/ me but was in engineering. not everything is a numbers game.

I know this one guy...25R...2.99 overall GPA...got accepted in Philly.
also...at SUNY Buffalo 20K 2.7 overall GPA and got accepted.
I think more should be placed on the interview. I think there are too many just "book smart" people who make terrible physicians.
That's my input.

My roomate who is an M4 always says. "The top of the class will make the worst doctors, The middle of the class will make the most money, and the bottom of the class will make the best doctors." Lets hope that's true since I'm surely not at the top.....just thought I'd share that.

Actually, I heard it goes something like this: The top third will become the smartest doctors...The middle third will become the best doctors...and the bottom third will become the richest doctors.

I don't know how much truth that holds, but it's what I've heard.

I've also always heard it as the top of the class become researchers, middle becomes the best doctors, and the bottom of the class make the most money.

Ok, wait...25 mcat and 3.3 into Weil? Is that right? What other EC's did your friend have? research, clinical? Volunteer? A Masters? Was he or she a minority or a URM? I am so curious about this one. Weil is hard as hell to get into...this is very interesting....please elaborate if you can. Thanks.

Gives us hope!

I am interested as well. I was engineering at a school comparable to Cornell with similar (slightly higher) stats. Did this person have excellent extracurriculars? clinical? research? I thought getting into med school with her stats is no guarantee with a 25 and 3.3, even at a ivy league engineering school.........am I wrong?

its not like cornell is the exception. All schools have a broad range of statistics for entering matriculants. You will find the < 25 MCAT matriculant at almost every school in the country, every year.

Really? WOW...so what sets them apart? Do they just send in their secondaries super early and pray. WOW a 25...I just think that is almost impossible to occur. But, yeah, I guess there are always exceptions to every rule we premeds hear.

While it may be possible to get in with a 25 or less, it is extremely unlikely. If you fall into the category, maybe try this year, but I would also write the MCAT again and try to score 30. In my opinion it is not difficult to hit 30, irrespective of "intelligence". But it does require a good work ethic, which is what med schools want their students to have!

someone once mentioned that if u have above average stats/ECs, etc its to your advantage to apply early (for obvious reasons), but if you have below average stats, to be in the first "pool" of applicants reviewed might hurt you because you'll look even weaker relative to other applicants in the earliest pool (usually some of the best). i dunno if its true, but it kinda makes sense.

Yeah that totally makes sense. It just sounds nuts that with a 25 or below someone would make the cut. But, yeah, truth be told, that the hold package counts overall. So one part could outweight the other. I guess, as premeds, we are always told that number outweight everything in your app.

I for one, will not have a chance at early application. I do not have a choice at taken the MCATs this coming August because I will not be finished taking all of my pre reqs including orgo I. So, I am already at a disadvantage....boohoo for me....do you guys think it would still be a smart idea to send in apps early and then once MCAT scores come in in October 2005, at least my file will be already there and they can just look it with scores and all? It is still a gamble, cause what if I dont do as well on the MCATs, then I will have wasted all of that money and time on secondaries? What do you guys think>?

I don't know how much truth that holds, but it's what I've heard.

From personal experience (the docs I know), that seems pretty accurate. 2 family friends who were top 10% in their class got addicted to various things during/ after med school (the alcoholic psychiatrist is finally clean now and reapplying for his license - I'm not quite certain how he lost it, and the formerly drug-addicted anesthesiologist has changed professions).

And then there's a family member of mine with a 2.9 undergrad GPA who only got 1 med school interview, was accepted, got only 2 As in med school, and later became very successful selling wrinkle cream from chemical patents he got in grad school. Yeah, it's a screwy world.

Tho, I have not seem much empirical evidence that med schools are learning from this, although it's nice to see the well rounded applicants getting acceptances too.

No way.....there's just no way that happened. I saw him on MDapplicants.com too and I cannot believe it. Some of those posts are likely false. 🙄

I agree, that is a bullsh#t story. Happens in DO schools, not happening in MD.
