Wow!! Congrats on your acceptance!!!

any advice on future interviewees?

In my interviews I just try to show them that I am a happy and interesting person who loves medicine because of my exposure to the field. I think that I have had great luck as far as interviewers are concerned. For the most part, they have been very kind, complimentary, and genuinely interested in me and my experiences. I enjoy interviewing. Advice? Relax, show them why you love medicine. I read that Jeremiah Fleenor book about interviewing. I thought that much of the info was quite intuitive, but it also helped me to consider the process from the perspective of the medical school admissions committees. Food for thought. I think that at the end of each of my interviews, the interviewer was not left with any doubt about my motivations and goals. Again, good luck to you all and I hope we all get good news post Oct. 15!

Congrats there future doctor.

Feels good to know that you'll someday be wearing the long white coat.

I took the MCAT after I chose my schools and applied. So, I really applied to a broad range of schools and I didnt quite shoot high enough. I actually got 22 invites (2 I turned down) and I attended 11 since late August. I think I have a great application, with a great amount of diversity in my extra-curriculars. I ended up doing quite well on the MCAT and my grades are solid. I did apply to some competitive schools, but probably not as many as I should have. I agree with you that getting that many interviews probably means that I should have shot a little higher. I am still looking forward to hearing back from some of those other comptetitive schools. I must say though, that I did greatly enjoy Wake and if it is the only school that lets me in, I will be very happy attending this program. Good luck to you all! If you have any other questions please ask!

Geeze I thought i was going nuts with 16 interviews. The same thign happened to me. i applied very boradly because I didn't have an mcat score to go by. How are you handling all of these interviews? I'm still in school so its very difficult to keep up with everything, plus the cost factor of travelling. Not sure if I shouuld cancel any interviews if I get any acceptances.

Awesome to get an acceptance this early. Must be an amazing feeling; hope to share in it soon! Good luck everyone.👍

Congrats!
So if schools send out letters on the 15th, does it mean we'll get it on the 16th the earliest?

Some schools have already sent out letters but have marked post offices to hold them until X date.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I have a full load of science courses this semester and with all this interviewing, school has been extremely difficult. I dont complain however, its been nice to see all that these schools have to offer. 16 is AMAZING, so the best of luck! But, I really wish I had applied to a few more competitive programs...before I ran out of cash!

Do senior year grades even count at this point? I'd hate for a school to reject or take me off the waitlist because of a few bad grades due to travelling all of the time

I also wonder exactly how much grades matter at this point. My Wake acceptance letter had 3 stipulations, it said that my acceptance was contingent upon "continued satisfactory academic performance." I dont know what that means exactly, but I think that I should probably still shoot for A's (but I wont worry too much about B's anymore).

I would not cancel those other interviews unless you are independantly wealthy. You should gets as many acceptances as possible and then compare financial aid offers. I currently am an M1 at a top ten school. Last year I had 10 interviews and 6 acceptances. There was a huge range in the financial aid packages that I received. If I had cancelled my interviews after my first acceptance, I would not be attending this incredible medical school that gave me a scholarship that pays almost all of my tuition. The best financial package I received was from my last acceptance, the school I now attend. So I would suggest that you continue with your interviews and see how everything plays out before you make your final decision.

do you mind if i ask what your situation was?

i'm married with semi-rich parents, so i'm not expecting much. am i right to do so?

Some schools have merit based scholarships and they are not all based on numbers... UW told us 10% of the class would get $15-20k in merit scholarships.

thanks again!

and advice is similar to anxoius' :

i was just enthusiastic, outgoing, and excited to be on my interview. just have a good answer for why medicine, and relax and be yourself and be honest. more importantly than any of that is to apply early and broadly. good luck everyone.

I am single with significant demonstrated financial need. I have a strong academic record and a high MCAT (but so does everyone else at the school I attend) But the award that I received reflects my med school's philosophy that its students should not graduate burdened by huge debt. So basically my tuition is covered by a scholarship and I am taking out loans for my living expenses so my debt load will be very manageable when I graduate. I am very grateful.

Several schools that accepted me basically just offered me a loan package and two schools offered me scholarships that would have covered about half of my tuition. I was shocked when I received my financial aid package from the school that I now attend.

Was your family "disadvantaged"? My husband and I have zero assets, but my parents have money so I'm assuming I will not receive need based aid.

My parents are middle class but stretched pretty thin presently. I think that I just got lucky being accepted at a school with this philosophy regarding financial aid. I definitely did not receive a merit scholarship, since I am pretty average at my school.

You might take a look at the US News and World Report book that shows the average debt of graduating students. Those schools with the lowest debt average probably are more committed to helping students manage their debt load and have the resources to help by giving grants instead of just arranging loans for everyone.

I am from Oregon and was accepted at OHSU. But it is actually is much less expensive for me to attend my med current school than OHSU. When I got my financial aid package, I felt like I had won the lottery.

If I were married and my spouse had a good job, I definitely would have received less aid. Plus my parents are definitely not rich.

Good luck with your applications.

Congrats on the Wake Acceptance! You are going to love it here. See ya next fall!!!
