wow.

so i just received an email from wake forest informing me of my acceptance. after two years of tryin and now finally getting it, the feeling that came over me was ridiculous, my body was seriously tingling. holy ****.
 
Nice! Love to hear that your persistence paid off.

Get ready for another 4+ years of persistence...you earned it.

I'm curious as to why they'd be spending out acceptances before the deadline and what the AAMC does to crack down on that. That said, if you really did get an acceptance today, congrats.

no clue. but i remember at the interview they mentioned the committee meets around oct 3rd and then will notify a week after, never mentioned october 15th. i mean it is an email with a pdf file of the letter, dated today, attached. probably wont get the actual letter til the 15th.
 
I remember at my interview they told us we would hear back today, but I really didnt believe that they would let us know before the 15th. However, I am quite glad that they did! First acceptance, loved the school, time to cancel 9 interviews!!!!!!!!!

Just out of curiosity, are you cancelling those 9 interviews because of location? or have you visited them before? I just don't know how I can choose one school over another without visiting them all first....
 
To those accepted: Wake is one of the most mysterious schools in terms of admissions, who gets rejected, who gets an interview, etc...can you comment on what you did differently, or what aspects of your app caught their eye (any comments they gave you to that effect on interview day)....wild guesses acceptable...

I'm going to cancel them for 2 reasons, 1) I am so out of money 🙁, and 2) I really was impressed with Wake, and any other school that I was interested in (as much as Wake) I have already interviewed at!

Well... I'd personally wait on canceling the schools you might like to go to more, unless you are absolutely strapped for cash.

The good thing with an acceptance is that it gives you something to fall back on, but they're still might be other schools that interest you more (you never know). Also, you might want to wait and see about scholarship money as some schools will "up" their scholarship offer to keep you (especially since they already gave you an acceptance, they obviously like you).

Anyway, try not to party too much this weekend!

It is probably an unofficial notice. The official letter will probably be mailed Monday.

Absolutely, I really was able to do most of my interviews already (the ones that I was most excited about). I interviewed at 11 schools, and I really liked about 4 or 5 of those (Wake included). So, basically, I am really poor after all that traveling, and I look forward to hearing back from a few others! But having something to fall back on now is really nice.
 
Congrats. is it your first choice? I would love to go there.

I recieved a regular decision acceptance from another school on September 24 with an official letter so it does happen.

Good call. STDs are certainly not on the list of "Things to bring to Med School" and I'm not sure if Stafford Loans cover child support.

I would not cancel those other interviews unless you are independantly wealthy. You should gets as many acceptances as possible and then compare financial aid offers. I currently am an M1 at a top ten school. Last year I had 10 interviews and 6 acceptances. There was a huge range in the financial aid packages that I received. If I had cancelled my interviews after my first acceptance, I would not be attending this incredible medical school that gave me a scholarship that pays almost all of my tuition. The best financial package I received was from my last acceptance, the school I now attend. So I would suggest that you continue with your interviews and see how everything plays out before you make your final decision.

just wanted to say thanks. my "real" friends and family dont really understand the whole med school application process and how big of a deal it is so i thought i would share with y'all. and i think i am going to cancel some interviews, but also go to some others, to hopefully one day compare financial aid packages like someone said a few posts up.
 
Wake forest is such a beautiful campus. I envy you.

Congrats on the freakishly early good news! Realistically, can schools do that (offer acceptances before Oct 15)?

So you interviewed at 11 already and have 9 left to cancel? That's 20 invites by October. Why aren't you going to Harvard...?

I took the MCAT after I chose my schools and applied. So, I really applied to a broad range of schools and I didnt quite shoot high enough. I actually got 22 invites (2 I turned down) and I attended 11 since late August. I think I have a great application, with a great amount of diversity in my extra-curriculars. I ended up doing quite well on the MCAT and my grades are solid. I did apply to some competitive schools, but probably not as many as I should have. I agree with you that getting that many interviews probably means that I should have shot a little higher. I am still looking forward to hearing back from some of those other comptetitive schools. I must say though, that I did greatly enjoy Wake and if it is the only school that lets me in, I will be very happy attending this program. Good luck to you all!
