Acep

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'll be there.

Take care,
Jeff

the most well known for night life and being near the fun is a hotel called the "W". if you have the money, it'll show you a good time. other than that, just make sure to be in downtown, or capitol hill.

have fun 😉

I've heard about "Capitol Hill". You can't fool me with THAT one three times.

😀😀 no no, actually, its become a lot more classy (or at least less frightening) since its reputation of the skunk punk fashion. but its close enough to downtown that you can stay there and be relatively close to night life.

I'll be there. My wife was actually able to get off too, so this will be a great trip. We're staying at the Hotel Vintage Park. 😀

I'll be there too. I'll have flown in from the Dominican Republic the day before (medical mission trip with a couple other senior residents), so will need to reacclimate to civilization. Margaritas, anyone?

Ah man....no more punk?

And to think, I just finished importing my old Black Flag stuff into iTunes.

Take care,
Jeff

will be in Seatle ---touch base dude.

Here are some suggestions from my department president, the last line is funny:

If your are among the fortunate ones going to the Emerald City for ACEP, here are unsolicited suggestions.

Eating:

Cascadia: walking distance: regional
Ettas: walking distance; Seafood
Swingside Cafe: Cab ride to Freemont District, gentrified funky area
Monsoon: Cab to Capital Hill area. Vietnamese
Rovers: Cab to Madison Park area, French great area to walk around. right on Lake Washington
Mistral: walking distance French
Ray's Boathouse:Cab ride to Shilshoe area-- go before sundown stay after.

South end of Lake Union--mid town--Seattle Seaplanes. Get 4 or so together. 45 min trip. They will fly you over Gates' place in Medina. Ask them to fly you over the sub base at Bangor and see how quick your flight comes to an end. Worth the $$, Amazing. Short Cab Ride

Pike Place Market: At least half a day.

Walk the Waterfront and Aquarium: go out the back way from Pike Place Market

University District/University Avenue: University Bookstore and Campus half a day.

Fisherman's Terminal Area. Cab ride, Amazing, largest fishing fleet on the West coast, great walking around area Good restaurant ? name

Ferry to Bambridge Island and back: Great trip. 45' each way. From main terminal on waterfront. Walk-on easy. Done so return is in early evening and Rainer is out can present an amazing sight. Wine suggested.

Best sundown visuals for a nice day: Share cab with some others to Magnolia bluff area. Follow the residential street as it winds around and you and the cabbie will know when to stop. Tell em to pick you up after sundown or take a bus back. Trust me on this one.

Go to Pioneer Square Area. Bookstores, stadiums, restaurants, eclectic. Short cab ride or great walk.

Paul Allen's Music Experience ( temple to Jimmy Hendrix, and others) in Seattle Center.

Air Museum at Boeing Field. Paul Allen parks his 757 here. He is a sissy.

Fish off the Montlake Bridge by Health Sciences Center/Univ Hospital and Stadium. See if you can hook my pitched anatomy/physiology books and those of 8 classmates. One of them actually accompanied his books into the water. Check out the height of the drop for that jump. The eight remaining on the bridge too stunned to move right away. Were sure he could not fly but hoped he could swim. Survival only due to inebriation and a passing boat underneath the bridge he cleared by maybe 10 feet. Voice now high pitched. Legend in his own time for that stunt. Improvised plaque commemorating the event placed on bridge removed multiple times by the city until we got too old to care or remember. He is double boarded in ENT and IM and lives in Idaho.

That's it. My memory banks are toast. If it rains do all the above anyway and suck it up. If you dare to carry an umbrella they know you are from out of town AND are a sissy.

Any other must do / must see suggestions out there?

Dr. Evil1 did a great job covering the downtown stuff that I would start with if it's your first visit. Only a couple I would add:

The REI head quarters downtown is fun. Indoor rock climbing, mountain bike obstacle coarse to try on that bike you've bike you've been draeming about, etc.

Carillon Point and the Kirkland waterfront are pretty cool. They are on the other side of Lake Washington. If you take the I-90 you can get a nice view of Mercer Island. But the 520 bridge allows you to see Gates' mansion on Hunts Point and the Husky Stadium (most beautiful in the country IMHO).

I forget the name, but Google Indian dinners in Seattle. There's a fun evening trip where you take a ferry from downtown to an island reservation for a "traditional" Indian cook-out.

Spud's fish & chips at Green Lake still makes my mouth water. It's about 3 miles from the UW campus and Greek District.

If you want day trips, Paradise Lodge on Mt. Rainier is worth the trip. Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic Peninsula is a spectacular drive. The Ho Rainforest is a sight you will never forget, it should be listed as one of the natural wonders of the planet. Deception Pass on Whidbey Island is worth the trip, especially if you stop for Salmon fishing, sightseeing Fort Casey or clamming at Capt. Whidbey's Inn.

See you guys there....I will be the one staggering drunk and screaming for my mofine.

Seriously though. With a description like that, how are we supposed to distinguish you from all of the other EM residents and attendings?

I was there.. it was quite fun.. oh my im tired..
