read acid base balance in kaplan, not a big fan. Seems like they just want you to get the answer right instead of actually understanding whats going on. Any suggestions of any source where i could read this to get a good concept? nothing too detailed and strenuous hopefully?

Couple key points to remember that makes it easier for me to understand:
1) CO2 is an acid - if you have hyperventilation, your "blowing off" CO2 and will have respiratory alkalosis
2) Bicarb released from the kidney takes 48 hours to be activated to "compensate", it's not immediate.

So you may have a bicarb level drop below the normal value of 22-26, you would have metabolic acidosis to even out your pH.
